New thread for cat lovers

OMG, I forgot about my post at the top of this page. This is, of course, the beautiful, “healthy” cat we lost last month that I am still grieving over and dreading our son’s sadness when his cat will not be there to greet him when he comes home for winter break. He WILL be heartbroken, once again.

I adopted my rescue cat after she was brought back to the shelter from a prior adoption. She had the reputation of not getting along with other cats. Since I was planning on only having one cat, I figured it was a good fit. She is really a sweet cat although she has her moments.
She has a very strange habit, which is hilarious. One day, I was finally emptying out some old toys and stuff from my daughter’s closet to turn it into a guest room and I came upon a Ty Classic cat toy. This is a large beanie baby type stuffed animal that is about the size of a small cat. I just stuck it in the cat tree as I was passing by and forgot about it. I began to notice it was on the floor each day when I came home from work. Generally I would place it back in the tree so it wasn’t lying on the floor. Soon, I began to find it in different rooms, sometimes behind doors. The oddest spot was the day I found it in the bathtub. I never see her carry it around while I am home but she is intent about where she wants or doesn’t want it to be when she is alone in the house.

@ChoatieMom: so sorry about the loss of Weasley. Fourteen years of health and love with his own family is a good run for an adopted shelter cat. Sounds like both Weasley and your family were lucky to have each other.

But it is heartbreaking when you lose your beloved pet.

@ChoatieMom, I’m so sorry. It is so hard to lose a pet and even harder to watch a family member’s heartbreak over the loss. :frowning:

I’m glad Toby bonded with the new kittens! That is very lucky.

My DH met my cat when we were just starting to date and asked another friend just how long cats lived. The friend told him not to worry because cats can live a long, long time. Since then, he’s become so bonded with our cats that he can’t imagine them not sharing our bed. He even lets the big hefty male settle himself on his lap. It’s pretty funny to see.

@artrell, that is hilarious! I have a friend whose cat adopted two stuffed cats. One was his friend and the other was foe. The foe even had patches of stuffing ripped out of him.

Aww… that Savannah.

BB, seeing this thread pop up reminded me to post my cat story. Our cat has heart issues, so my H gives him his medicine each day, using salmon flavored cat food to help. Last weekend we had salmon for dinner, and the cat turned up his nose at our Alaska salmon leftovers. He used to love it. It kind of reminded me of the Kraft Mac n cheese being favored over homemade.

My five year old feral, Fitzgerald, had himself a 10-day walkabout at the beginning of November. I went through all the emotions…two overnights of being crazy worried and of course it was cold, windy, and wet those two nights, three days of calling all the local animal shelters and control officers, posting on fb missing pet sites, etc., another few days of grieving that he was gone, called my kids and told them the news, and then on day 10 spent three hours de-catting the house. I vacuumed every square inch, washed all the bedding he came in contact with and curtains he climbed. Packed up all the cat food and toys and put them in the my trunk to deliver the next morning to the MSPCA. Lo and behold, 5 am and I hear him outside my window. I didn’t know whether to kill him or love on him. Boy, he was hungry and tired. Thought he was fine other than that but had the vet here a week ago to look at him and he had been in quite a scrap apparently. He’ll be fine but has antibiotics and ear drops for a bad tear inside his ear. Merry Xmas to me to the tune of $250 :frowning: He has used up three of his nine lives. I’m not sure I can live through another 6 LOL.

True love: My D is a real cat-lover with two rescue kitties. Her fiance is allergic to cats. Last month he started a two-year series of allergy shots to help with the itchiness. So far, so good.

Same story as @scout59: daughter’s now-husband allergic to cats - allergy shots etc. So far, still good after 4 years of marriage.

@NEPatsGirl: Glad Fitzgerald made it back to you.

Do any of you read the comic Breaking Cat News? Three cats - Elvis, Puck, and Lupin - and horrors Elvis escaped two days ago.

http://www.gocomics.com/breaking-cat-news (Go back to Nov.28 to see Elvis get out of the house.)

FWIW: I thoroughly enjoy this comic.

D2 and her BF rescued 2 kittens last month (sisters). Her bf has been on allergy meds since they moved in, but he loves them so much he doesn’t mind. D2 and I are getting him a good air purifier for the apartment for Christmas!

That BF is a keeper! Mr. B is allergic to cats - but not all cats, as we learned. He socialized with all perspective adoptees at the shelter to make sure they would not send him running to the ER. Some cats were super allergenic! He probably got seriously desensitized, so when kiddo dumped the (featured in my avatar) grandkitties on us, he was fine with them. Awesome cats.

Recently I’ve noticed my almost 15 year old cat has been drinking more water and urinating more often. I took her to the vet for her yearly checkup and he did a urinalysis and blood work. He said her bladder was full and the urine looked dilute. Yesterday, he called and said all bloodwork was normal except a slightly elevated BUN. He said she is in early compensated kidney failure. He recommended some prescription food that has low sodium and reduced protein content. He said she may still be able to compensate for several more years.

Have any of you experienced this? How long did your cat live after going into early kidney failure? I love my sweet girl, and this makes me sad.

My cat Iggy had acute kidney failure which turned into chronic kidney failure (which is better than acute). His chronic kidney failure tests got better and better again until one day - years after initial diagnosis, his kidneys were perfectly normal. Our vet said he had heard of it happening but had personally never seen it. Miracles happen. Hoping for the best for your “sweet girl.”

Cat cafes lead to increased adoption rates!!

^^^^^Lol!

Avatar, please? The pretty lady, not the dead mouse.

I will be seeing my beloved kitty this weekend at my D’s place, where I had to rehome her due to living circumstances. Is it horrible that I am looking forward to seeing kitty almost as much as D and SIL? ;

D2 has two very young cats we affectionately call “the babies.” They are so energetic, curious, and funny. Last time D2 told me she was coming home for the weekend, I said “Oh, I can’t wait to see the babies! Er…and you, of course.”

Oops.

Funny story, my daughter was at a darty(day party) and the owners cat waltzed in and dropped a mouse in the middle of the party. Lol
