I'm new to the forum and need guidance. I have spent countless hours researching info with my daughter regarding college. The problem...her career choice.

1 love is acting but will likely pursue a degree in media arts or film, which she also loves. She feels this might provide the best back up plan and still get into the entertainment industry as she pursues her "acting" dream. Are there any parents out there with extremely creative children who are in a similar situation? We want to look in FL to take advantage of the instate tuition....at least, for now. Any input on FL schools for media arts, film and theatre programs can be sent my way.

Hi photogmom! There’s so much info on here-- the archived thread above, part 8, has a list of all the BFA’s (probably about 5 years old, but it’s a beginning) U Miami has a BFA in acting, Florida State had a good one and I’ve heard people talk about U of West Florida? My sister lives down there and the in-state tuition is wonderful. Others will know more but I just wanted to say welcome!

Hello photogmom. I can definitely relate to the excitement and anxiety of supporting your daughter in pursuing her dream. Don’t have any info on Florida schools to help you but good luck!

nothing to offer either on FL schools, but I think this is a pretty common profile! alot of our kids have multiple interests in the arts. Check out Sutton Foster’s website: she’s a visual artist as well!

I’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have about FSU. Many Theatre students (as well as students from other majors) audition for and appear in Film school work.
The Theatre classes are restricted majors but our productions are open to students from any major as well.

I’m a newbie too and have no info really but just want to say hi and tell you what a great and truly helpful community this is. I’ve had so much wonderful advice already.

I started my addiction to CC when my S was looking at colleges 2 years ago. Now D has totally different interests from him so I have been reading all the theater forums but don’t post much.

My D also has interests all over. Ideally she would want to be in film or television but prefers MT to straight theater programs. She has interests in so many other areas that a BA is more suited to her tastes. She might consider some sort of communications/marketing/broadcasting area as a minor but also is interested in photography and design work. It is so hard to narrow the college list and it has been helpful reading everyone posts. I worry more for her making the final college choice out of her acceptances because she wants to do it all and will have a hard time weighing her choices. I’m glad that there are such helpful people on these forums to bounce off our thoughts.
