you can delude yourself all you want, and that’s sad, but you don’t go to yale. yale doesn’t admit people like you. if it did, that’s sad and i’d be even more glad i turned down my acceptance from there. you don’t go to yale though.

Let’s try this:

Your ad hom attack was a premise (I got rejected from UChicago and UPenn) to create a conclusion (I am angry that NU is ranked lower). So it was an ad hom. It also was completely inaccurate.

I didn’t apply to UChicago or Upenn. I just didn’t. Look it up through my past posts. I described my entire admissions cycle. Why I would lie on July 20, 2006 to prepare for this very moment is something that only your ego could prove.

Considering you have posted under this screen name since October 2007, it is exceedingly convenient to pretend you go to Yale now. If you spent half the time on your own school’s boards as a school as otherwise arbitrary as NU, you probably would’ve posted SOMETHING on the Yale board. But you didnt.

Here’s the deal: you’re upset because I suggested that UPenn and UChicago are ranked too highly, in my opinion. So you decided to make an assumption that I made this judgment out of malice and/or jealousy. So you didn’t bother to look up the facts, which are plain to see, and claimed that I got rejected from both. I then pointed out that I stated 3 years where I got in and didn’t get in, and neither school was on that list. Why I’d admit to getting rejected from G’Town, but not UPenn would be flabbergasting b/c it should be more embarrassing to be a G’Town reject.
Since you are using a profile you haven’t touched in years, you know that you can say whatever you want because you could very well have a different profile at the school you actually do attend (I have a few guesses which school that is) and not be liable for whatever you say. You also waited until YOUR intellect was challenged before adding “new haven” as your location and insinuating you go to Yale, even though you never posted a damn thing on the Yale board in the past two years…something very odd, indeed.

Summary:

You took offense at something I said and created a lie which I proved to be a lie. So put your tail between your legs, stop posting, go back to whatever board you came from (I’m sure they’d love to have you), and come back when you have something remotely intelligent to discuss.

DAYUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMM.
You just assassinated that guy…cerebrally.

Boom…roasted.

Penn’s jump is largely due to the surprisingly high “top-10 % in HS”. At 99%, it’s higher than HYP (~95%) and UC Berkeley/UCLA (98/97%), the California flapships that value GPA the most. It’s also significantly higher than what Penn had last year. The 99% actually matches its ADMITTED stats. So there’s a question whether this is actually the enrolled stats. I personally find it hard to believe there weren’t more people that were outside the top-10% but had something amazing enough to get into Penn. I suspect this is a concious move from the Penn admission to play the ranking game more aggressively. The end result is that it’s ranked #6 in selectivity even though the SAT range is lower than many peers, including NU’s. USN thinks it’s more selective than Stanford which we all know it’s untrue. The “99%” has paid a huge dividend for Penn.

^ There were also some indications that Chicago submitted “admitted” SAT data in lieu of enrolled.

enough, kids.

1cognito,
thank you, come again.

CerebralAssassin, you are my hero.

this is embarrassing

rankings don’t mean anything. a college experience is what you make of it.
you’re fortunate to attend a school like NU, take advantage of it.

Exactly!

We don’t want NU to recruit NCAA academically borderline athletes like Duke does for BB and increasingly for FB.

And speaking of BB, 4 star (Rivals) shooting guard, Jershon Cobb just committed to the 'Cats for the class of 2010.

Going to make an interesting battle at the SG position w/ incoming frosh Marcotulio (who is reputed to be a sharp-shooter) and Drew Crawford, who finished 3rd as Mr. Basketball for the year 2009 for the State of Illinois (note: the same guy who picked Dwayne Wade over Darius Miles as Mr. Basketball in 2000 also picked Crawford; that’s not to say Crawford will necessarily become another Dwayne Wade, however).

Also, for the class of 2011, the 'Cats are in the running for 8 top 150 recruits, including 3 top 30 (2 of whom are 5 star/top 20) recruits from Georgia known collectively as the “Georgia Peaches.”

Even w/ a tougher B10 (the B10 will probably be the deepest conf. the next several years), I like the ‘Cats’ chances of making the Dance.

Here’s an informative article on how the 'Cats have been looking at practice…

Also, the women’s BB program is bringing in a top 10 recruiting class and should be well on its way back to being a Tourney regular, if not a powerhouse program.

After years of futility, the field hockey program w/ 1st year coach Fuchs is once again ranked in the top 20.
