So I've been denied TAP for the past two years because I wasn't an independent and my parents are not New York State residents. Anyway, I am now 22 lived in New York State for the better part of two years now and for all intents and purposes am considered a New York State Resident. However, Binghamton recently told me that because I didn't graduate from a New York State high school I am unable to get in-state tuition. I am a transfer student that has spent two years in a New York State community college. Will I be unable to obtain TAP just because I didn't go to a New York State high school?
@sybbie719 can probably answer questions about TAP eligibility. Not having a NYS address may contribute to NYS’s determination of residency.
As long as you are a dependent student (you are) and your parents are not NYS residents and are not physically present in NYS (they don’t), you will never be eligible for TAP. While the age to be independent for Federal AId, the age to be independent for NYS Aid is 35
Each school gets to determine their own residency requirements. Did you graduate from the community college ?
If you are moving to the US even if you attended college in the state for 2 years if you are no longer a NYS resident so you are not eligible for TAP
I am adding the link to your other thread, which I responded to
