New York

Hi. We’re looking at 2 colleges in the NY/NJ area. Any feedback from the Mason Gross School of Dance in NY would be helpful, as well as Pace in NYC. DD is interested in commercial dance preferably. Thanks

I have heard that Pace is the college for commercial dance. I just have heard lots of feedback that is the are that is focused upon for the dance majors.

Mason Gross, which is in NJ and is part of Rutgers University, has an excellent modern dance program, but it’s not focused specifically on commercial dance. You should contact them to find out how many of their. alumni go on to careers in commercial dance. It’s fairly easy to get to Manhattan from New Brunswick. Mason Gross is a great option for someone who wants top-notch dance, the experience of a large university, strong academics, and state school tuition.

I am currently a senior in Pace’s BFA Commercial Dance Program and I love it!! We are ballet and jazz based as opposed to ballet and modern based. Our electives (required) are hip hop, tap, modern, theatre dance, partnering, aerial arts, and a few other classes depending on your concentration. In addition to dance, we also take two (three if you want) semesters of voice training and one semester of acting with more available if you so choose. We have four different concentrations: Performance, pedagogy, choreography (mine), and LA Intensive focus. It’s a really awesome program. If you have specific questions, please feel free to message me!
