New Yorker Article on Trade Schools and Environmentalism

I just read a great article in the new New Yorker about the shortage of skilled tradespeople and the degree to which environmentally friendly technology will depend on getting more education in this area.
I thought some might be interested. We tried hard to get S23 interested in the trades, but he didn’t end up going that direction (yet.) There are lots of good jobs coming in this area…

My S’s best friend graduated from HVAC school a couple years ago. He had drifted from low paying job to low paying job after graduating high school. His mom wanted him to go to college, but he really didn’t want to go. Once he mentioned that he was interested in HVAC, my S stayed on his case until he finally enrolled. His older brother, who was burned out from managing a restaurant kitchen, went with him. Today, the two have a route together, servicing commercial restaurant HVAC needs. They earn good money & enjoy their jobs. It’s a great field. Electricians, plumbers, HVAC … we will always need them.
