Newcomer Publication

Any reason to purchase this publication? Is it useful for 1st years to have or is it just a momento?

I still have mine from 30-ish years ago (nicknamed “The Pic Book” back then) and have looked at it many times over the years, and used it a lot as a freshman. I don’t know how often my daughter, a rising junior, has looked at hers but she has Facebook so that may make a difference these days. There is a Commodore Yearbook that my daughter has gotten but I was surprised at how few students have their “formal” picture taken and are included in the Yearbook.

The Commodore yearbook used to be part of the activities fee and free to all, but S’s freshman year of 02-03 was the last time this was the case. Now many students just buy a copy their senior year. I think there’s a tendency to ignore the picture sittings if you aren’t purchasing a copy. Both kids enjoyed and saved the freshman picture book.

Sounds like I’ll spend the $20. I can see how it could help if you just can’t quite remember a name.
