Saw a piece on the local news tonight about the Cliff Walk. It will not be repaired for a while. There is signage in place for walkers to detour around the damaged section and rejoin the walk after a short walk along a street.
I also read about the Cliff Walk repairs – I see lots of locals suggesting parking on Narragansett Ave, towards the middle of the walk, rather than parking at the “beginning”.
Weather will be fairly cold, in the mid 40’s. Yes, it is Boyd’s Windmill that I know he will want to see, if he has time.
Being local we’ve walked the Cliff Walk a bunch of times. We walked from the official beginning only once–found that stretch not super interesting. We usually start in the Salve Regina University area–school occupies a few cliffside mansions, their administration bldg (Ochre Court) is a Richard Morris Hunt french gothic mansion that is a good place to scope out a rest room. This is north of the Breakers stretch of the path. Narragansett Ave is just north of Salve Regina.
We’re back!!
Thank you to everyone for their help with all the good ideas. A great many things were still closed, but we enjoyed ourselves a lot.
We drove the 10-mile drive, gawked at houses on Bellevue (a LOT of them are under scaffolds and being renovated). We went to Sachuest Point twice – once to watch the sun go down, and once to walk the ocean trail, which was fabulous. Even foggy and cool it was beautiful.
We did a walk around Bowen’s wharf but almost everything was closed, but I did get some toffee! I would have really liked a glass ornament, but oh well. Parking was abundant, streets are confusing, we got the hang of it. We did walk around Ft Adams but it was really foggy and everything is still closed so it was very Shutter Island! The Eisenhower house was a pretty viewpoint plus DH is a presidential trivia guy so it was a nice addition for “it’s right THERE”
Saw the windmill and the tower, and stopped at the Yacht Restoration School, which was just so, so cool. The students were super friendly and my husband was fascinated. I would highly recommend it.
and we had to wait to pick up our dinner order from a place , and popped over to Narragansett and ended it all with a brief walk on the Cliff Walk. By then, I had put the gps away and we had a good sense of getting around. The signs are very helpful, Rhode islanders do seem to think stop signs are optional but okaaayy. Thanks again everyone!
Glad you had a good time! Thanks for letting is know about how your visit was.
