Just tried making a reservation for the Honors weekend in March. I took ideas on where to stay off another thread and called the Hampton Inn Garden Dist. Booked. Moved on to the Best Western. Only 3 rooms left when I called. So, I urge you to make a reservation asap if you need a room.

I agree with spring. There will probably be lots of rooms in the Quarter and nearby, but if you want a room in the Garden District where you can hop right on the streetcar and the ride is about 15 minutes shorter (nice if you are going back and forth a number of times), the rooms are more limited.

Thanks for the info; we’ll be going that weekend also

The Hampton Inn Garden District has been booked for a few weeks. We also tried to get reservations at the Royal Sonesta in the French Quarter (where we stayed the last time) and it was also booked. So, I definitely agree with Spring162, do not wait to make a reservation.

We’re planning on going in April, but are waiting for more details which should arrive this week. Yes, we’ve also asked our admission counselor for details too. Since we’re coming from California, we’ll probably try to schedule other vists for the (Spring Break) week before, but so far we’ve only heard from Tulane (YAY!!!).

Does anyone know if something else is going on that weekend or is it always hard to get a room? DD hasnt even committed yet (looking better every day!!!) but I am wondering if I should book for Parents weekend and/or move in weekend now. What about orientation time?

Orientation is usually not too bad, and neither is parent’s weekend. But as you say, there can always be something else going on, so it can’t hurt to get those hotel reservations ASAP. After all, you can always cancel with no penalty, usually up to that day.

BTW, for those of you from the midwest and northeast where it is rather chilly at the moment, I would point out that it is supposed to be 63 and sunny in NOLA today. Just sayin’.

fallenchemist, you are EVIL!!!
(;^)

Not too evil. I am one of the unfortunates as well, and getting more unfortunate this weekend I guess. You, on the other hand, appear to have it pretty good, if you have stopped drowning. Or did that miss you?

Friday seems to be the problem. Most hotels are sold out that night. We shifted from F-M to Sa-Tu and got right in.

When I was calling Saturday seemed to be the problem. I thought it best to arrive Saturday since the Honors program begins early Sunday. I didnt want to have to schlep my suitcase directly to the university since it will be too early for check in.

fallenchemist: We had a few drips at my office, no pun intended, but I’m not complaining. We’ve had too many drought years for me to be bothered by a little rain.

Change of plans. We’ve booked the flights for March Honors Weekend and are now looking for hotels in the French Quarter w/two beds for the nights of 3/13 & 14. Any suggestions appreciated!

We stayed at the Monteleone when we went to visit. It was good enough. We may stay there again if we get shut out of the Tulane area, which is likely.

We can split the cab fare :)

Bird rock: thanks but we checked, booked up.

:(

I’ll let you know what we find

My wife suggests we just buy a house nearby, probably break even pretty quickly.

Not if our kids have to stay in the dorms for the first two years!

Booked the Chateau Bourbon for Saturday & Sunday nights. We got a “queen room” w/2 queen beds for a total of $229 including taxes through Expedia. Phew!

Parents weekend does in fact get booked up because it is homecoming weekend.

There are several b&b’s inthe garden district that are worth looking into. I haven’t personally stayed in one, but a friend did (sorry, dont recall which one) and said it was charming. Also, ck the Tulane travel portal for hotels/ b&b’s that offer TU discounts.
