<p>Stanford offers admission to 867 applicants through Single Choice Early Action program</p>

<p>The Office of Undergraduate Admission announced today that 867 students have been admitted to the Class of 2009 through the non-binding Single-Choice Early Action admission program. These students were selected from an applicant pool of 4,330. They have until May 1 to confirm their enrollment, and are welcome to apply to other colleges and universities under the terms of Single-Choice Early Action.
“These early admits are exceptional,” noted Anna Marie Porras, Director of Admission. “They embody a passionate spirit of discovery and an energetic vitality for life and learning. They have the unique experiences and diverse perspectives to embrace Stanford's resources. I know they will contribute significantly to all aspects of our campus community.” </p>

<p>The number of early applications rose again this year, increasing almost six percent over last year's inaugural Single-Choice Early Action pool. The total number of applications is an increase of nearly 2,000 compared to the number of applications received just two years ago in the last year Stanford offered a binding Early Decision program. </p>

<p>Porras said the overall strength of this year's applicant pool confirms that Single-Choice Early Action remains the early program that best meets students' desires. “It is clear that these students have embraced this non-binding, first-choice option as an opportunity to conduct thorough and thoughtful college searches. Our admitted students are confident that Stanford is the right fit for them intellectually and personally, and their applications show they have the curiosity and readiness to thrive here.” </p>

<p>The majority of the offers of admission to the Class of 2009 will be made in April at the end of the Regular Review admission period. </p>
