What about the Republican's treatment of homosexuals? How can you defend using the constitution to limit freedom?

That's a good question! What about it? And maybe you should look up the definition of the word "democracy." If you didn't know, that's what the United States operates on. That means: what the people want, the people get. And the people wanted marriage to be between a man and a woman and that's what they got (the proposed amendment passed in every possible state).

China, no contest

yay! go china!
but i think given the current turmoil between the wealthy officials and destitute poor farmers and workers, difference between the ethnic groups, chjna will undergo a revolution in this century. we'll see what happens...

Congratulations you've just endorsed slavery. I mean, it's what the people wanted, so it's what had to happen.

And I agree that states should have the right if they choose to do so. I mean, it's disgusting that they would want to do so (I just don't see what the big ****ing deal is and why people are so verrrrrry against it), but it's their right. I just don't see why a constitutional amendment is in any way necessary.

PS where were the WMD's? Not in Iraq I suppose.

LoL

this is amazing, this must be one of the hottest threads ever. I post this yesterday and people go crazy !

ANyway all you people who think abt China as a global power think this abt India

Population to overtake china's in 10 years.
India has almost become one of the biggest exporters to the US .
5 years from now you are going to see indians everywhere !! WE are taking over!!!

ok perhaps the last sentence was exaggerated, lol, personally one of the european countries is going to rise again and that probably is goign to be Germany again.

Austrailia is not a bad placefor that matter. been to that place, pretty neat

Haha, maybe you missed the Civil War? You really should brush up on your history skills.

Uh, you totally missed the point.

The vast majority of people in the South believed in slavery. Does that make it right? Just because the vast majority of people in Alabama believed in segregation, should we not have integrated the schools?

haha China overtake the US? nahh..not anytime soon. And the EU sucks. You need to research the economic conditions that some of those countries are in. So we will reign supreme for the foreseeable future.....

China.....
They have a hot economy

Nothing like ours where the supposadly fiscally conservative party in control plunges us into debt with hundreds of billions of pork barrel spending. The Us will go the way of Britain(if successful) in that it will retire gracefully. If not, well the possibilities are only too horrific to consider.

^^^Somebody who sees it the way I do. Finally!

Haithman, the EU does not "suck". Economically, it answers to a different philosophy than the US. Europeans are not consumers, so production will never be the same as the US. Still, the EU has a larger GDP than the U. But in terms of stability, the EU economies have always been more stable.

But I did not realize we were talking about economics. I thought we were talking about global influence and power. Over time, the EU will act more cohesively and when it does, it will be a force to be reckoned with. Right now, the EU is nothing. It is merely a bunch of countries with no borders and once balance sheet. But over time, it will develop into a cohesive unit. When it does, watch out.

the united states is going to be a world power for a considerable amount more time. just because china has the capabilities of becoming a world power doesn't mean its going to happen any time soon. the resilience of this country is something that we are underestimating on this board.

China overtake the US... hmmm.... when more than half the products in China say "made in the USA" on their tag, get back to me, then maybe we can talk.

As for the EU, look at the EU right now. It doesn't have a unified opinion on ANYTHING. The EU is Europe with an Articles of Confederation. The only way the EU will be able to rival the US is if they become the United States of Europe, with each country giving up some sovereignty, which I don't see happening. I mean, France is already trying to impose laws that affect every country except for them...

Actually soccerguy, Europe is quite unified socially and ideologically. The problem is that some governments (England in particular) have old ties with conflicting powers that at present, act as a wedge. France and Germany are the undisputed powers in Europe. And why shouldn't they be they are the two largest Economies and populations. Aren't Calfornia, NY and TX the most important state in the US?

If the UK were to join, along with Germany and France, they would form the backbone of Europe and as a union, it would be far more cohesive.

lol you guys serious?

Cant you see the dependency of the US on the Made in China tags? Having more and more of such stuff means we are importing a lot more than we are exporting!

Take this for example, in 1900 you could find made in britain goods all over india almost and every consumer good was british. DOes that make india the world super power? lol to brush up some history ( or to some, to give a basic idea of history ) India was a virtual slave under the British for 47 more years.

Jeez guys think straight.

^^^ Those were hardly free markets, making that hardly a relevant example.

i'm chinese but i got to admit...i would like the US to stay world superpower for a longggggg time, regardless of which nation would fight for its position.

the US is the most unique "civilization" in the history of mankind.

Actually France and Germany aren't the two largest economies in Europe. That would be Germany and the United Kingdom.

I'm going to have to go with China on this one.

Quote: "i'm chinese but i got to admit...i would like the US to stay world superpower for a longggggg time, regardless of which nation would fight for its position.

Look all this hypothetical, so you dont have to be too touchy. Anyway every nation or kingdom i mentioned in the orignal post were " unique" at their period of time. Thats why they prospered.

Look how is China showing dependency on the US when we see their t shirts here? If you had said you found a lot of american stuff in the chinese market then i could have seen your point.

II truly believe the US is goign to be a super power for 15 more years atleast but after that i am not sure.
