So did anyone else become a semi-finalist...

This essay sucks! Another 1000 words.. BAH!

and how are we supposed to find a NFIB member!
I don't know.. I guess I will still try!

I'm a semifinalist too, just got the email! It says there's a number to call to get a list of NFIB members in the packet...

LOL - for the essay I can pretty much combine and recycle two of my college essays.

1000 words is heck of a lot easier than 500!

Our son just got the email that he is a semi finalist...but we can't get into the site. Wasn't the access code: Nfib? Does anyone know why he can't get into the site or what he should be doing?

The old access code was NFIB - the new one is NFIBSF

I know... I am going to call them Monday morning... I am just complaining because I have senioritis and two other scholarship essays to write... bah!

Oh and I have no such essays to recycle... I decided to cause myself pain and write about the need for international democracy as my application topic.. it payed off... but now I have to write every essay from scratch... blast!

btw you can go to an international school and still get this scholarship right?

ice_sickle007 - you should really look into the international thing before wasting your time writing the essay. I don't know if it applies to international students or not, but the N in NFIB stands for National and is referring to the USA. However, it wouldn't seem right of them to accept you as a semifinalist if you made it clear to them that you were an international student.

Also, does anyone know how many people got NFIB semifinalist? I know at least 305 people will get some amount of money, but I have no idea how many people got this semifinalist.

Thanks Mike....we really appreciate it.

i got the email also, however it sounds like it will be a pain to find a NFIB member, not to mentionthat it appears as if that member must have some sort of interview with you.

Mike, I don't know how many but the fact that they sent semifinalist letters out as a generic email hints to me that many remain in this competition. Does anyone know how many get 1000 and how many 5000? It says national awards are 5000, so does that mean 1 for each state?

There is one 10000 National award, I think there are four 5000 regional awards, and a bunch of 1000 awards from each state...

and the thing is I am not an international student in the US... I am a US citizen... I am going to school in Germany... kind of confusing...
I didn't know that I was going to school in Germany when I applied but I put it on my new application.

plus I have already half written the essay so there is no point in turning back now...

They said that they will give out at least 300 of the $1000 scholarships, and then they have 5 regions, where 4 people (from different regions) will get $5000 and the last person will get $10000, so there will be a minimum of 305 people getting the scholarship. However, last year over 400 people got the $1000 scholarship - that 300 number is just a minimum.

I am bumping this us since another person is inquiring about the NFIB scholarship.

So if you are a semi-finalist what do you think are your chances to be a finalist?

I would like to know if there is ANYBODY OUT THERE WHO APPLIED who DID NOT get that email? Or did everybody who applied automatically become a semifinalist?

I don't know.. I kind of applied on a whim with very little entrepreneurial background (I have only worked for small businesses) and I still got it ... BUT... I have a very strong academic background and pretty nice ACT scores...

And I finished my essay !!!! YAHOO!!!

I'm a semifinalist also..
Out of curiosity I sent them an email asking how many people are semi-finalists... I'll keep everyone posted if I find out

Thanks Nicko...that will be great to find out.

So they replied to my email:

"We are not announcing that at this time. Thank you."

ugh, kind of what I expected. I was still hoping they'd give a range or general number at least.

I am not too concerned with that... I think we all have a pretty good chance because it doesn't look like a lot of people applied for it...

There are only 7 people on this thread...
