I’m thinking of applying to the general NIH internship next year, the summer before senior year but I feel like I would be under qualified. Can anyone tell me about the applications? I know it’s very competitive and I have no experience, and the only thing I would provide is the interest in a certain field.
I’m in high school btw
Fear not, the good news is that there are fewer students that apply than you think so you definitely do have a chance.
The bad news is that your gpa sat score or other “statistics” will not play as large of a factor as your experience. One of my friends with a 36 ACT and 4.71 gpa got rejected, while another who already previously had an internship and was involved with engineering and stem classes was accepeted.
Definitely take challenging stem courses, and a class like ap bio would definitely give you knowledge and lab experience that you would need to do research at nih. See if you can find an internship for the school year.
