So I applied to NIH Post-Bac program and got contacted by a p.i. I had a phone interview which was brief but very informative. The project is new and will be a great opportunity for me to invest 2 years in since that's what I was told they require. They said they were "interviewing other applicants' and they will inform all of us of their decision by middle march. I want to know if my chances are good because I did get a phone interview or do they do those often? I made sure to follow up with additional questions after the interview to reiterate my interest. I am really anxious! Also I am a recent graduate so I am ready to begin upon being offered the position since she informed me that they want to begin as soon as possible once they make their decisions.

Sorry, but it’s hard to tell. Each lab is sort of its own “fiefdom” so the rules for how many IRTAs each lab accepts and how many each lab interviews varies greatly.
