NIH Summer Internship Program *2016-2017*

@ven2020 thank you!

I was recently accepted to NCI Frederick. I am currently looking for a roommate. I am a graduating male high school senior. Please privately message me if you are interested in rooming with me. Thank you!

Hey guys, I was accepted a few months ago but I still haven’t signed any official paperwork. Are any of you in the same situation?

That’s really weird, I’ve been doing a lot of paperwork in the past two weeks and I got accepted 3 weeks ago. I would definitely contact your mentor and check this out.

Hm, thanks for letting me know. Are you at the NIEHS campus in NC by any chance. Perhaps its a localized issue.

@peargirl I am also Interning at the NIEHS this summer and I was accepted in early March. The following 3 weeks or so was tons of paperwork, forms, fingerprinting etc. I would definitely email your PI, Mentor, and AO and see what’s up… It also might just be that your PI is preoccupied and has not gotten to it yet. My PI made it clear that it’s pretty cumbersome on their part with the amount of paperwork they have to do. So don’t stress, just send them an email. Nothing technically has to be done until like 2 weeks before your start date.

Oh wow, thanks for letting me know. I’ll send an email.

I just found out about this program and was wondering if anyone could tell me what exactly you need to get to prepare your application so I can get a head start for next year. I watched the video but I’d still like to know what exactly pops up when you click on “apply” because the application isn’t up anymore.

Hey everyone! There’s a FB group on FB if you look up called “NIH Summer Interns 2017” feel free to join the group if you are interested! Looking forwards to meeting everyone :slight_smile:

@nobruh It’s pretty competitive ngl. I emailed at least 200 people over winter break (December) and even then offers had already been made. Nevertheless, I would recommend emailing people ASAP once the application gets out. Set a reminder on your phone. Usually it is around November when the applications are released. If you would like more in depth tips please feel free to pm me and I am glad to answer any questions that you have because I too am a high schooler that just worked really hard to get this program this year.

Hey first post :slight_smile: Rising HS junior here. Got accepted as a volunteer around mid-March over at NIDCR in Bethesda. Super pumped! Also, any one looking for roomies, hmu!

Hey! I’m gonna be a junior this fall and just found out about this program. When is too early to start emailing? It’s the end of July right now, would August be way too early?

Hi, I am going be a junior in the next school year. How much weight does NIH internship carry for college admission? Would it help with your application for a prestigious college or even an Ivy league? I applied for 2017 summer but did not get it. I did land up a research opportunity in a local college. Should I apply for NIH again or continue in the local college next summer which I think they would let me do?
