NJ Gov School vs Paid Lab Internship?

Hi everyone,
I know this question has been asked a few years ago, but it seemed like most people favored the Gov School and said a lot of people ended up in great places. However, do you think the Gov School is better than a returning internship at a prestigious lab (not a well known program, it’s more of an independent research project w/ mentorship) where I may get some published papers and the PI is very supportive and asked me to participate in Intel STS?

NJ Gov school is a much more prestigious name in apps, but the internship would let me branch off in science and instead of taking classes, actually contribute to the lab projects. The Gov school of science is interesting to me, but I also enjoyed the internship as I am currently part of it this year, but was invited to return to work on an Intel worthy project. So interest is not an issue. The internship was not extremely difficult to get (but only because it is very difficult to learn about it…it’s mostly grad students, a few students who had relatives in the lab etc)

I could probably also get a letter of rec from the PI (a very accomplished MD/PhD) since it would be my second year.

I’m just wondering which is better since everyone says that people from Gov School go to great places…my school does not let me apply to both. If I get nominated for gov school, I am binded to attending, even if I am denied! So I would be left with 0 backups. It’s pretty competitive at my school to get nominated, and I just want to participate in what you guys think is the better science experience.

Thank you in advance!!

Pick whichever you think you will gain the most from. Governors School will let you meet so many new people and have great experiences with them, but the internship is more unique and will show colleges more about your capabilities IMO.
