Hi all,
Throughout my high school career I’ve participated pretty deeply in the NJCL. Specifically, I have achieved a golf medal in the NLE for 4 consecutive years and have placed fairly well at state and national fora (15th nationally in grammar x2(most competitive event), 4th and 3rd in the state, and 4th nationally in male dramatic interpretation). Should I attempt to leverage these accomplishments even though my extracurricular focus has been otherwise on STEM. I plan to apply to several Ivy’s and other T20’s for STEM. These achievement were brought forth solely from interest in Latin, and I think they could convey my true interest in the multidisciplinary studies offered at these institutions. Are NJCL awards of my ilk considered impressive? Is this analysis correct, or should I neglect to mention these achievements?
Thanks!
hmmm…I’m facing the same dilemma currently. I have five consecutive NLE gold metals, an 800 on the subject test, and lead three different Latin clubs, including JCL, at my school. I don’t have any strong STEM ECs, although I am applying for chemical engineering. So far, I think Latin has been somewhat helpful. I got into GA tech (OOS) and NCSU but was deferred from Princeton.
Hope this was helpful
