I looked everywhere and keep seeing that to become a NM FINALIST, you have to be a US citizen/permanent resident. But can I become a NM Semifinalist without being a US citizen/permanent resident? Thanks!

That is a great question which I have not seen addressed before. My assumption is that they would not make someone a Semi-Finalist in a competition in which they could not become a Finalist. Early on in the PSAT process, they word a question about eligibility in a way that allows students who can meet the requirements to become a Finalist to enter the competition. If I remember correctly, students do not need to be permanent residents or citizens to enter, but need to confirm that they are in the process, and that they will be by the time the competition concludes. That may have just been for citizenship, however. I think it all comes down to checking if you have that little asterisk that people have discussed before. Hopefully, one of the CC experts will have a better answer, and correct anything that I have said that may not be accurate.
