NMF vs other scholarships?

I am wondering if D should send her PSAT scores to 2 schools as offered in the letter. Based on her score, she will be a NMF if the SAT score is ok when she takes that. The schools we are looking at do not offer full rides for NMF. Here is what I am afraid of: that if we send the scores to the school, when she applies they will not offer a full scholarship since she is guaranteed NMF $ (which is only 1/4 of the tuition), I'm worried they won't consider her for a full ride "presidential" scholarship since she is guaranteed some NMF $ already. What do you think? Should we wait and then let them know of the NMF after any scholarship offers?

If you’re that concerned, then just choose 2 schools that give NMF scholarships…Those can be her financial safeties.

Then, if she doesn’t get the Presidential at her top school, tell them that she’s NMF.

thank you!

First, it doesn’t matter where she sends the two scores. That is just putting her on the mailing list. Don’t over think it.

As far as the other question, I suspect it is actually opposite of what you think. At our state university they are more likely to name NMF as presidential winners. That way they can say our fifty presidential scholarship winners include 30 NMF. If they can claim a two-fer like that it is more bang for their buck because they are giving out fewer scholarships total. At any rate, when she actually applies in the fall she will want to put down her semifinalist standing

very interesting! thanks hadn’t thought of that…

My S, a NMF, was offered a presidential scholarship at the school he is attending. And then when they received the confirmation that he had selected them as his number one choice they filled in with school designated National Merit dollars to give him a full tuition scholarship. Just got the news yesterday! What a great opportunity. I just hope he understands and appreciates it.
