dodgersmom - great answer, great insights.

NHM or SPS?
hmm, Stonehill or Harvard?
Very hard choices in deed!

Guess from what you said on this thread, I would say NHM!!

mhmm - As an adult, I am puzzled by the venom in your posts on this subject. I am a parent of a student attending SPS. Yet, NMH has great qualities and I could think of reasons why a student might apply to both.

A student could live within a reasonable drive form both and not want to be too far from home.

Both schools have wonderful arts. A true strength to both SPS and NMH are their choral programs. If I had a child with vocal talent, I could see having my child apply to both.

NMH has a block schedule and some kids might prefer or do better with that format.

I echo the suggestion that the OP should attend revisit days to get a stronger feel for both.

creative - theres absolutely zero venom on my part, even after being called an idiot and someone who didnt get into any school, by a 10th grader. Mine was a really natural question of why anyone would compare such different schools, and also frustration of seeing so many people who are waitlisted, quite possibly because of random applications. If the question had been, compare SPS to St. Marks, then it would have come from someone who actually did their BS homework.

BS mhmm and I don’t mean boarding school. Don’t accuse people of not doing homework. just like you think you know everything about the Lville/Hkiss social scene, you have no idea about NMH if you find it so fricking incredible that someone could question SPS or NMH.

Can you not fathom yet that most everyone here so far has thought you were overly vicious and totally don’t get it?

There is no law against applying to different schools, and you have no idea about randomness. Apps cost $ and take a whole lot of time that most kids don’t apply for no reason and without doing some homework honey.

I would love to know why you think you know everything.

St Marks is OK but NMH is not? That’s your most recent inane out of your behind comment.

Seriously go work on your own kids applications and stop spewing here.

Wow, what is wrong with you! St. Pauls and NMH are totally comparable, because they are SO different! It doesn’t matter if those are wailisted… are waitlisted. If the person decides not to attend, then those people have a chance. NMH may be a better fit for someone else instead of St. Pauls. Personally, I would rather attend NMH over St. Pauls. For someone to ask about what school to choose means they are “educating” themselves right then.

To stay on subject, what school would you choose mhmm? What schools did you get into?

^^me? a day school in NYC followed by Barnard followed by Columbia Univ. All on FA.

I completely agree with creative1. One also does not know the financial situation of the op. If the OP needs significant or full FA, that would be another reason to apply to various (even seemingly “random”) schools.

On a side note, I would choose NMH over St. Paul’s. Having seen both, I can honestly say that NMH would have much a much better fit for me than SPS. Though SPS may be “prestigious” or offer more advanced courses, nmh still offers a wonderful breadth of courses and opportunities for academic and personal growth. NMH definitely had a cozy, safe feel. That is not to say that SPS was cold or lifeless, but NMH was just exceptionally warm IMO. Honestly, it comes down to fit. Granted, I was accepted to PEA and PA among others, but NMH remained high on my list throughout the process as I knew I would not exhaust any academic options at ANY school I applied to. Had I only been accepted to PEA and NMH, I can almost guarantee that I would have chosen NMH as I feel it was a better fit for me, personally. Best of luck to the OP.

Good job, mhmm! Do you have any personal experience with NMH or SPS?

And I know others who feel the same way! Although NMH is sometimes described as a “safety,” that does it a real disservice. My experience is that the students I’ve met who attend NMH are there because they want to be, not because they had no other choice.

This says it all to me:

If peer schools consider NMH a peer school, that matters more than any random poster on a public board. Revisiting tomorrow! :)

Agreed! Thanks for posting that.
