No additional things?

Hi, I was deferred from REA for stanford. I’ve seen multiple times on this website that Stanford doesn’t like additional things such as another letter of rec or a research paper, but the link that used to say this doesn’t exist anymore and I can’t find any information on these things on their website. Does this mean it’s okay to send my admissions officer my research paper or another letter of rec? I really want to do everything I can to get into Stanford but I don’t know if I’m allowed to do this
Thank you!

I got deferred too and was wondering the same thing. I’m going to contact the admissions office when I get the chance, you can too if you want  but I’ll post what I find out if you don’t beat me to it

Obviously the only meaningful answer comes from someone in the admissions office, not a random message board. My guess is a typical paper or rec letter is not going to make a difference and the admissions office doesn’t really want it.

Some accomplishment at a national level after submitting your application would probably be worth submitting.

one thing to add is that a deferral from Stanford is actually a good sign for acceptance in RA if If I remember my stats from last year… Stanford is not in the habit of deferring (like a lot of peers that defer basically the entire EA pool to RA to boost stats) unless they thought you would be accepted.

Stanford is more likely to outright reject than defer in its EA pool so deferrals are a good sign… good luck!

Additional info should add something different and meaningful to your application. An additional rec will likely not say anything that has not already been said. A paper published in an acclaimed journal is worth an update. A national award is worth an update. Short of that, sending in additional docs will get you remembered, but not in a good way.
