No AP at school, is learning by myself a good idea?

Hello- so my school doesn’t offer AP or Honors or IB, which can be seen to colleges but I want to show them my interest in education and i actually really want to learn more. I was wondering if anyone has taught themselves whats on an AP exam- i would be planning on finding an online free course (most likely MIT or Harvard) and basically learning everything on the AP sylabis. I would also use the AP Exam Prep Book. Does this sound like a good idea? Would it look good to colleges that I took an exam for a class i didnt take and got a good grade on it?

Thank you

Are dual enrollment courses an option?

Colleges don’t expect you to take anything beyond what your school offers. You can self-study AP exams if you want to learn more or earn college credit, but it’s not going to have a major effect on admissions.

^^Self studying Ap’s is great for getting credit , but it has no impact on admissions. We know this for a fact at the top schools at least.

Will doing a dual enrollment have any effect on admissions?

It does show that you took the initiative to go above what your resources offer.
Dual enrollment gets a bad rep because the rigor can’t be compared. However dual enrollment can open up lots of higher level classes. Fwiw I’m taking classes at a local university because I’ve run out of classes in certain subjects. E.g. Multivariable Calculus.
