No Brazilians here???

Such a big country with so many internet users i hope theres someone from my dear homeland here (not that dear to me actually)....

I am Brazilian, based in Sao Paulo. And you?

I'm from Porto Alegre

Are you thinking in applying for an US university?

If I can do so, I will become a Brazilian citizen when my Brazilian girlfriend and I get married in about two weeks and she has our baby in five weeks.

What are you thinking of studying?

My fellow citizens. : )

ahh nice, good luck to you, even though, unfortunately a brazilian citizenship isnt very useful :S

I want to make an MBA in an US university, i have some in mind but this can change. Im studying my Business degree in a brazilian university, still got three and a half years to finish the course, but im already thinking in what i got to do to be admitted into a top tier US university to do my MBA.

I am applying to some programs in philosophy and literature both in the US and the UK. So far, I only got rejections from the American schools and acceptances from the Brit ones, though with no financial aid...
BedHead: do you live in Brazil or the US?

Eu mora no San Francisco. Sam988, talvez eu posse ajudar voce. Desculpe meu Portugues ainda nao bastante.

Which schools are you looking at? What is your focus? Example: finance, technology, international business.

Joaoabreu: are you applying to graduate studies? Where have you applied in the UK?

Im focusing on business in general.

Im looking at top tier universities because i believe i have the potential to enter one of them.

I dont have outstanding ECs and thats what i want to develop in the 3.5 years i have left of college.

Which school do you work at?

Any advice? I dont know what to specifically ask you here, because i have too many questions...

BedHead:
So far, I have been accepted by Cambridge and Reading (with no financial aid from either) and rejected by five out of the eight American programs I applied to. I am not so optimistic about the remaining three. Anyway, you can check the details in the thread of Rejections/Acceptances 2007 under the heading "Graduate School" in this very CC website...
I am still rather sad with my bad results. However, after reading many threads here and in other forums, I feel that nobody with credentials similar to mine would have deserved anything much better than what I got so far. If I knew how tough the competition is, I would have prepared myself more, or would have tried only next year, if ever...
Anyway, I believe that my age (36) counted against me - I would clearly be the oldest student of any of the programs I aimed at (except for Columbia, I guess).
I would really like to keep contact with you. If you are interested in exchanging messages in Portuguese, I can privately send you my personal e-mail address.

sam988: though I am not a business student, I have close friends at some of top Brazilian schools in the field, and some of them have had academic experiences in the US and UK. Do you have any idea of the school or city you would like to study at?

Joaoabreu,

Getting into Cambridge is hardly a bad thing. It is one of the best universities in the world.

P

Thank you, psmyth000! The problem is that I do not have the funds required to be fully accepted by Cambridge. I have been making contact with many institutions, my family are doing their best to help me to raise the sum...But so far, nothing yet...
Where have you learnt Portuguese?

Just a few corrections:

Eu mora no San Francisco ----> Eu moro em Sao Francisco

Talvez eu posse ajudar ----> Talvez eu possa ajudar

-----> No's (?) temos escola aqui (again, "tenemos" is Spanish, not Portuguese).

meu Portugues ainda nao bastante ----> meu portugues ainda nao e' bom o bastante.

Keep studying and you might improve your Portuguese.

Eu morava no Brasil.

psmyth000: Great! Where in Brazil did you live? What field do you study? As far as I can see on other threads, you are at LSE, right?

All graduate applications to Cambridge, as long as they reach the admissions cervice before the deadline, compete automatically for Gates Scholarships. Since I have not heard from them so far, I am assuming they have not picked me...
I am trying other finnacial aid institutions as well. But the impression just gets stronger that I simply will not be able to meet that financial requirement.
Anyway, the mere acceptance by one of the greatest institutions in the world (even for a not so sought after program, and even with no funds) helps stand the rejections from the philosophy programs...
