no cell phones etc. in class

I am starting college in Jan. I have already taken some classes there so I know the policies on cell phones in class (big no no here unless they are turned off) etc. But I was reading an older thread that said there was a thread on limiting tech. in classes but I can't seem to find it. Does anyone have a link to such a thread. I wanted to see both sides of the topic.

Thanks.

What? Just set it to silent or vibrate. Not sure what the dilemma is here.

I have no issues with it what so ever. In fact I do not even own a cell phone. I was just curious about both sides of the issue.

not usually a problem in most classes. basically, just be courteous -- turn it to silent and don't get it out (unless you're checking the time or something)... don't text, etc.
as far as other technology goes, laptops are allowed in most classes (usually unless a prof has had repeated problems w them in the past), but you should be using them primarily to take notes and not to surf the web and Facebook or to IM
