No Financial aid at all offered

Hey guys,

I was recently offered admission to Grinnell college (international student) but was offered no financial aid whatsoever. I applied for financial aid and the NPC estimated my aid to be around $50,000 ($45000 in need based aid). However I was offered nothing from admissions. I had submitted every single form and document. Should I contact Grinnell and ask them to reevaluate my financial documents for aid? If so how what should I say or mention that is really important and will convince them to give me aid? And do colleges even offer aid after decisions are out?

Also should I call or email them?

I would love to attend Grinnell, but cannot without financial assistance. Thank you for your help in advance

Financial Aid package may be sent separately unless you recived one that said you got no aid. Check if you did submit the form required for financial aid and if the school does provide aid to international.

We’re all of your forms completed by January 15?

ahhh shoot i sent it but they reached Grinnell by 20th. However they did review it all. … is thay why ? if I email them do you think they would reconsider? and what should I write in my email?

@thumper1 … They said I do not qualify for any which shocked me. Maybe they misread my documents or something?

Are your documents accurately completed? Was your income entered correctly? Didmyounput your parent incime under the student section?

Check each line if your submitted application…see if you entered something incorrectly…a misplaced decimal point cold make $10,000 look like $100,000. So check.

The biggest thing…student income should NOT include parent income.

Was th financial information from the net price calculator the SAME as that which was entered on your ISFAA from? Check and see.

What about assets? Do you have any?

@thumper1 I am 100% sure I had entered everything correctly. I triple and quadruple checked everything and all information matched.

P.S I am an international student

I know you are an international student.

What did you enter for your parent income?

@thumper1 I rather not say but I feel that its enough that many other similarly endowed schools would offer >$45,000 (min) in need based aid.

Did you apply to other similarly endowed schools, get accepted, and get a >$45,000 need based aid package?

What did your aid look like at other schools?

If Grinnell thinks you can pay $50,000 a year or so to attend…then they think your income is in the greater than $150,000 a year range. Either that or you have significant assets…real estate, savings, etc.

@thumper1
Unfortunatly none of those apply to me :frowning: not even close. I think there might have been mix up with my documents or some kind of misinterpretation… I emailed them and will call them later. Hope they can reevaluate me.

They don’t mix up documents. You need to really read your submitted financial aid application documents VERY carefully. I would, wager that you made an error of some sort…and your aid award was based on that info.

Good luck @mythics - I hope you end up with a result in your favor!

@choirsandstages Thank you so much

@thumper1 ohh well everything happens for a reason. I did my best and will try to get into contact with the office. Thank you for your comments

You absolutely should contact the school. You want them to check to see what their financial aid was based on. You DO want to let them know what your oarent incime and assets really are, so they can compare to your submitted forms.

I agree. Don’t give up … contact them & find out. Best wishes!

What is Grinnell’s policy for need based aid for int’ls? Do they promise to meet need?

Are you from a country where it’s hard for Grinnell to verify income? or from a country where much income is “under the table” or “black market”?

Yes, Grinnell promise to meet full need for international students who are admitted…at least I think they do. This is from their website:

That is why I’m saying…either there are significant income/assets…OR there is a mistake on the financial, aid application form.

In my opinion, that quote from the Grinnell website does not = a commitment to meet the full need of int’ls.

But this student said he got NO aid…and that is not consistent with what was written either.
