I am a rising sophomore at a really good public university and am about to enter one of the top 5 business schools in the country this fall (it's a 3 year program). I've spent all of my second semester looking for internships but have had absolutely no luck whatsoever. I feel like I'm a strong candidate because of my GPA(3.95) and work ethic yet I have had no results. I've basically given up hope, and besides, I know internships aren't important after freshman year so I'd like to at least have a summer job that would look decent on my resume and pertains to my field of interest. Any suggestions on what I should do?

May I ask what you've done thus far in terms of searching? For example, have you simply looked at what your university's office of career services has to offer? Have you just applied to top programs? I'd be more than happy to help if I knew more.

More generally, don't be discouraged. I'm at a top 30 USNews university, and although I'm only a freshman, I have a rather strong resum

Suggestions: Learn how to take initiative.

Hey have you look at the USAID internship for American kids? You have a great chance to go abroad. Even though it might be too late to apply now, you can check their site to see if there's something ton do.

not a bad gpa, do you go to umich ann arbor or cal?

if you want a decent internship, you need prior work experience. i was in your shoes. i must have submitted roughly 100-150 resumes and cover letters in the past 4-5 months. just keep at it. i got lucky and managed to get an interesting offer at a prominent investment bank, and i am not exactly at school known for business (although ucla is not half bad for a public institution). there are many internships out there still. pm me with any questions.
