My DS didn’t know what to do so went to a career counselor and took the battery of tests. It tooks about 2 hours to complete the testing, then about a month to get an appt. The counselor said he was strongly suited to Exercise Science, which has alot of Science related courses, which my son hates. He told him that if that didn’t interest him, the 2nd strongest skill set and personality he has more of are people with Business Majors. He said if he didn’t have a strong passion for anything, to do 1) ES or 2 ) Business. So, DS did business because he didn’t know what else to do.
He was fine with that, is majoring in Risk Mgmt and Insurance wiht a minor in Financial Planning. He was just doing Business Administration because yet AGAIN he wasn’t passionate about any one subject in the business school. I found out out about this major (yes, me…sigh ) and he thought it would be a good fit for him. He just had his first class in the new major and got an A.
So…my suggestion is a career counselor, more than just a self test. You student needs someone to talk to about it, and who can actually say…i would do this or that…because they can read this studies and do 100’s of them. Some students needs more help and need to be lead a little.
