So Ive been getting back some acceptance letters but I noticed that none of them offered any scholarships. I think it may be due to my F in one class ( i retook, had it taken off GPA but remained on transcript) and me sending my first ever SAT scores (around a 1240). Now I
m not a bad student at all. I`m 35/700 around a 3.7 unweighted and a 4.8 weighted GPA, with many AP and Dual Enrollment courses, and with a 30 on my ACT.
The question is;
Did that one F really mess me up that badly that it took me out of any scholarships?
Do your colleges list the criteria to receive merit awards? Look there and find out.
Some merit scholarships are not awarded until more of the class has been accepted. My daughter was accepted in Oct but didn’t hear about FA/merit until Feb.
First of all…you do know that Gainesville has one of THE best veterinary programs in the country…right? We know folks who turned down other schools for that one.
You say you have bright futures for the FL schools. And that is a good thing.
I seriously doubt you will get any merit aid at all from Emory, Bowdoin or Wake Forest. These schools have only very competitive merit awards. And it’s a maybe for Fordham.
Have you been accepted to other colleges? If so…where? It’s hard to tell you if you have a chance of getting a scholarship without knowing the college…
We got the merit scholarship notification along with the acceptance from some of the universities that DD’s applied to. Some other schools did not send the merit scholarship offers until quite a bit later (long after we had the acceptance). We did get all offers before either daughter needed to make a decision regarding where to attend but I have heard that even that is not sure, since schools might not know who is planning to show up until at least May.
One school made D2 a really good merit scholarship offer which we turned down (to go elsewhere). We made sure that D2 told the school that she was not coming, expecting that some other student somewhere in North America was going to get a pleasant surprise. Schools only have a certain amount to give out.
I don’t think that there is any way to know whether the F makes a difference here.
Do you know where your stats are wrt other applicants (previous years) for those schools? Top 25%? Many schools will recalculate your GPA so even if your school removed the F from your average, some colleges may have added it back in. To get merit money at most schools you need to be in the top 25% or higher.
Are you getting financial award letters with no scholarships? My DD has received two acceptances but no award letters yet and notice of one scholarship via email. Make sure you have completed the FAFSA and CSS profile if required for your schools.
My daughter heard about most merit scholarships with her acceptance to schools but didn’t hear about need based financial aid until spring. You can call the schools’ admission offices and ask if merit comes with acceptance letters or at a later date.
My daughter heard a few weeks later about her scholarships for her EA and Rolling Admissions schools. The RD schools that released decisions on the same day provided both together.
Your ACT is MUCH higher than your SAT. Make sure all your schools have your ACT.
That said, your ACT isn’t high enough for merit at your listed schools.
You have BF? That’s great! Go to Florida.
