No straight As = Rejected?

This phrase has become very cliched in my book now:

Only on CC...;)

I'm calling BS on the schedule.

Anyone have real numbers. If I had to guess, I would say that no more than 60% of Harvard students had straight As throughout high school.

I agree with thehoo
is this schedule real?
Alg2 and PreCalc in the same year?
I took AP Calc during Sophomore year
But I didn't take two classes in the same year
Also on straight A's...
careful for inflated grades. Colleges will catch you if you get inflated grades
Cuz the AP tests really show your knowledge in my opinion
GPA just tells them how much effort you put in class
I've seen plently of students (Seniors) in my sophomore year in AP Calc that got A's in class but got 3s and 4s in the AP test
I got a 5 but they just didn't get it
Good GPA = effort
Good test scores = strong knowledge
Good GPA + Good test scores = intelligence
but I just got the knowledge for my sophomore and junior year
but now I have a 5.0 weighted in Senior year
Well could you guys chance me?

Thanks

uh.... do u have any spare time??? 11 classes!!!

Sounds like her courses are just test-prep classes online. Something is odd.

If that ridiculously unnecessary schedule is true, then that's the funniest and saddest thing I've read on a message board in a loooong time. It's hilarious how some people just throw their teenage life away on studying and school. Some of you people need to learn to live a little. It's almost as sickening as the people who are freaking out over their admission chances because OMG I GOT A B! or MY SAT IS 2330 I'M DOOMED! Seriously, chill out.

forget that it's a "tough" courseload and f***ing work! This is your life and suck up. I've come to deal with my courseload -I'm also taking all AP classes, however not 10! Make yourself realize that these are just intro college courses taught at the high school level. It's not med school or law school!
If you're really worthy of attending the schools listed above then prove it. Straight A's this year will mean 100% acceptance next year!

meh, 10char

this post is so irritating.
the op can't possibly be stupid enough to think that any of those schools won't take someone with b or two.
i am so sick of people trying to show off and make me feel bad for them at the same time.
chances boards are for people who genuinely don't know what their chances are, not whiny, egotistical nerds who think they have to prove that they're smart.

okay. i'm just taking my frustrations out on the op. i think i need to take a break from the boards for a while...

I'm taking 9 classes, similar to this schedule (IB+AP though)... the scheduling really isn't the problem, it's that if you don't understand something, you're basically screwed.

I doubt that they automatically will assume the worst about you simply because of a few b's. Try not to worry about it.

if you had only taken calc AB this year, that would be the hardest course load ever haha.. any school, even ivies, aren't going to just throw out an application because of 2 or 3 B's.. your application will be so much more than that. they turn away many straight A, 2400 SAT students.. they are looking for something beyond that

I'm currently in my senior high school year and wanted to know my chances in Ivy League schools. My GPA is 4/4 and I have a host of ECA achievements. I have participated in two International Olympiads and a host of other international contests. I am a top level debater and have been the ranked the best in my country consecutively for four years. I am the captain of my school basketball team and have done years of theatre and have played the saxaphone for my school band. This sounds great but my SATs aren't too impressive. My SAT 1 score is a 1900-2000 score, but I'm taking it again. My SAT 2 scores are: 640, 700, 710. I had tuberculosis and hence didn't fare well. Do you think these would affect my chances in an Ivy League? Will giving a medical certificate help? I also have exceptioanly good recos. Should I ask my teachers to mention my illness in my recos? Will that help?

P.S:- My class rank is 1 our of 250.

Hey, I don't have quite as stunning a transcript but am wondering what my chances are as well. (I applied ED to Brown but am also wondering about other schools like columbia, yale, harvard, cornell, nyu, and usc since those are my other top choices)
Brief transcript summary I suppose.

Cumulative GPA = 3.7 on 4.3 scale (A-)
junior year GPA = 3.9 on 4.3 scale (A)
Rank: 18 out of 338 (that's what I'm most worried about right now)

Current Courseload (my school doesn't offer many AP's so this is the most difficult I could do)

AP Lit
AP US Gov
AP Calc
AP Physics
French 5
Spanish 1A
Journalism
Independent Study in Russian (I created the course and it's credited by the school)
Right now I have A's in all of them except AP Calc

SAT's
SAT I = 2120 (single test date): 650 math, 760 verbal, 710 writing
SAT Lit = 670
SAT US History = 660

ACT = 29 (science screwed me over)
science: 24
math: 29
english: 32
reading: 32
essay: 12/12
english/essay composite: 33

AP's (these are the ones my school feasibly allows us to take before senior year)

AP US History: 5
AP Lang Comp: 5

Extracurriculars / Awards

Co-Captain of Model UN Team. distinguished delegate 2 years in a row at Bentley Conference in my committee (like placing 1st in an event), honorable mention at Dartmouth conference (like 2nd)

President and Founder of the Debate Team

President of the French National Honor Society

Varsity indoor and outdoor track

Boy's State Delegate, $1000 scholarship award for Boy's State Essay, Eli Marcoux Boy's State Citizenship Award, Boy's Nation Senator (2 out of about 60-80 Boy's State Senators chosen to represent their state at Boy's Nation: both are political replications of the state and national government, respectively)

Currently an intern for one of the presidential campaigns (have supplementary rec. from them.)

Created an independent study course in Russian at my school

In the process of creating a Young Democrats of America chapter at my school

Regular National Honor Society Member

Math League and Calculus League Member

Took a summer course at Cornell in which I received an A and have a supplementary rec. from my TA there

My teachers have recommended me highly and I've had several teachers review my essay and all have said it's very strong. I'm primarily worried about my class rank and the fact that our school very rarely sends kids to ivies.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated :)

No. I go to a lower-middle class minority school (69% black, 21% hispanic, 6% asian, 4% white) where there are many drop outs as well as many overachievers.

Wow..........and your school has all those AP Classes...........that's really shocking........

My school is sort of a minority school also................Though there are a reasonable number of majorities also........It's like 23% white, 25% asian, 35% hispanic........and yea....i don't know the rest.......

Well.....we have like less than 10 AP Courses.........

What High School do you go to???? I don't know of any minority school that offers that many AP Courses.........

Will having two C's in two honors classes hurt your chances?

Most kids in my school take the type of cource load that you are taking, and it is an interesting delima. What I have been told, and ultimately chose to do is continue taking a pressing course load. If you can get by with an average of 1-1.5 B's a semester I suggest keeping the physics. Really concentrate on developing an interesting hook right now to make up for the B's. Ultimately Colleges, including HYPS, will respect a kid that takes the most challenging courses and you will end up better prepared to compete when entering said college.

if u drop a couple of AP's ur GPA is gonna go hella up if ur doing that well with like 10 AP's right now

do you manage to enjoy life?
