Hey, are there really no additional essays for Vandy?

Correct. Only the Common App essay.

We had one last year…wonder why they didn’t have one this year :P

There used to be an additional information section on the common application. Since there are no additional essays, that is a great place to explain extracurriculars or special programs you were involved in. As an example, S was in a science and engineering academy within his high school that had a focus on “learn by doing”. He used that section to explain the program and how it prepared him to study engineering in college. His transcript had the academy initials in front of the classes in the program, but given he was from a school that had never sent a graduate to Vanderbilt it would be unlikely that an Adcon would be familiar with it.

Correction, there still is an additional information section on the common application.

I wrote it the way I did because I didn’t know if it was still there after the changes made for the Class of 2018. Son is in the Class of 2017 so that’s what my information is based on.

Thanks!

Vanderbilt does have the essay on the common app to “Please briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences. (150-400 words)”

So is the bottom line that there is only one extra essay question for Vanderbilt on the Common App? “Please briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences. (150-400 words)”

Yes, that’s it!
It’s in the “Activities” tab under the question portion of the Vanderbilt part of the common app.
