No Trend in Grades

I know from my experience involving applying to college that colleges love to see an upward trend in grades. Since I didn't make the cut for Maryland, I will be attending community college (one with dorms!) on a pretty good scholarship this fall. I am in their honors program as well. I plan to keep a 3.5+ GPA since the minimum GPA for honors is 3.5, 3.0 to maintain the scholarship, and 2.75 to stay in the dorms. Hypothetically speaking, let's say I keep a 4.0 over four semesters. Will colleges favor that over an upward trend in grades? Just curious

yes for sure

So you’re asking given two students:

(1) GPA over 4 semesters: 3.0, 3.3, 3.6, 3.9
(2) GPA over 4 semesters: 3.8, 3.8. 3.8, 3.8

Who would colleges favor?

Who would you hire as a tutor, or as a financial adviser, or as a … Number (1)? Really?

My GPA is 3.5, 3.8, 4.0, 4.2, 4.6, 4.6

I also wonder how they view the above as opposed to straight 4.2

Bump

FutDoc might need to brush up on some analysis skills.

You too, AtypAsian: your Culm GPA is a 4.12. How is that as opposed to a person with 4.2?

It’s always good to earn consistent good grades. An upward trend mitigates earlier poor grades.

But instead of wondering about which set of grades your transfer target would prefer…just go to school and get good grades. Then you won’t need to worry about how the upward trend is perceived.
