Stanford all the way..Princeton im not to fond of.

I hate to add to this silly thread - but aside from its reputation, I never hear much about Princeton. I know it's an incredible school and am not slighting it at all, but I just don't hear much about it aside from being thrown off in the blur of harvardprincetonyale.

It's kind of like Philadelphia - this massive presence on the East Coast that I always forget is there because the news always comes out of NY, DC, and Boston.

That might be a horrible analogy. Don't attack me. I like Philly.

Why is this thread still around? Please let it die. Everyone knows that it was started by a troll. Princeton is a fine university, just like many others. There are people who love it to death, people who just like their degree, and people who shudder at it. This is a non-issue.

taxguy:
Kind of...Fitzgerald uses the characters in Gatsby to at least in part criticize the opulence of the 1920's. Fitzgerald portrays the wealthy "party-animals" as immoral, inconsiderate human beings.

Upon several visits there I can say that there are large contingencies of both snooty and un-snooty people.

However, while Princeton is a truly eminent university (only a fool would doubt that), I can't stand spending time in the place. It's just too...Stepford. And there are not enough coffee shops. And bagel availability is unacceptably low.

I make my plea again...please let this thread die. End it now.

I would, but it's too much fun! ;)

Have to agree with bigblue09 on this one--if you've read the book you'd know that F.Scott was ridiculing the shallowness of Jay Gatsbys and in particular, the shallowness of his friend Daisy Buchanan.

Princeton is probably the most beautiful city in New Jersey. I'm not crazy about the state in general--but it has some great cities--and Princeton and Morristown would be at the top (Camden probably at the bottom).

As far as Ivy league colleges--there is a problem with generalizing about the schools. Princeton is as different from Harvard or Columbia as Univ of Michigan is from John Hopkins. And while I have my own opinion about the people from each of these schools, the school is well-known for having lots of prominent alumni and professors and administrators. A few of these would be Albert Einstein, Woodrow Wilson, and John Nash (the subject of the movie "A Beautiful Mind" which won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2002).

Bump.
People ask me why I applied to Harvard but not Princeton or Yale. And then I don't reply.

After thinking about it, I'd rather say, I went to Harvard, rather than Princeton or Yale.

But I don't have a grudge against Princeton.

"Nobody likes Princeton" is an incorrect statement, because all we would have to do is find ONE person that likes Princeton. Therefore, if we can find ONE person, the OP must surrender and all his base are belong to us.

Period.
