Nominated as a Finalist for the Forty Acres Scholars Program

I got an email earlier this week saying that the College of Fine Arts had nominated me as a finalist for the Forty Acres Scholars Program at UT. I’m beyond floored and grateful (but also REALLY confused since my GPA and rank aren’t really much to brag about…). I’m feeling pretty nervous about going down there for the Finalists’ Weekend…has anybody gone through this process that can maybe tell me what to expect from the weekend and from the interview?

Congrats!

Congratulations to you, @Decomfortable! Hold your head up high and be yourself! Here is a link to a thread that seems to have some good info about 40 Acres. That year there was a bassoonist from out of state that was a finalist and did get the scholarship. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/15492766#Comment_15492766

My guess is that there is a donor family that stipulates that the 40 Acres candidate that receives their gift be in the College of Fine Arts. So you may not be competing with as many of those high stats kids as you think. Don’t quote me, but that is the sense I get from part of the thread above.

Good luck!

I have no inside information, but I agree. The first year or two of this scholarship, it seemed to be all about stats. Now it seems to be more holistic, and as described above, there seems to be some matching of scholars to scholarships.

Good luck to you!

ur stats??
