ok so, I recently submitted my FAFSA and PROFILE for all my schools, now most of the schools on the PROFILE want the Non-Custodial form. heres the issue: my parents are separated, i live with my mom, and i have no way in getting into contact with my father...how would I deal with this type of situation.

my mom pays for everything and our income is low. i dont want to be screwed over in the financial aid departments because i didn't send in the Non-Custodial form. PLEASE HELP.

Does your mother have contact with your father? Many Profile colleges have a waiver for the non-custodial parent but it’s not a given that during the review it will be automatically granted it would depend on your family circumstances…read the college websites to find the form and what you would need to do. There are also many threads on the topic of the non-custodial form, it might help you to read some of those and the answers to the same question you are asking.

Separated and who is the parent with custody are two different things. Furthermore, in many states the non-custodial parent is required to support his child-even prisoners, until 23 yrs old.

When you say that your parents are “separated,” does that mean that the separation is rather recent? Or have they been separated for many, many years but haven’t divorced?

When did your parents separate?

What about his relatives? Do they know where he lives?

Since some schools will require the NCP info, make sure you have affordable back-ups.

well see my parents separated shortly after the birth of my younger brother in 2001, and he has never shown his face since. neither i nor my mom nor any of my family members have seen him since then. i live with my mom.
