Non LDS Interested in attending a BYU

Out of the several out of Florida Universities that interests me is one of any of the BYU unis, any I would be able to get into BYU and ultimately into the BYU accounting program at Provo. Yet before I give 105 dollars for this application I am wondering if BYU,BYU-H,or BYU-I is the right school for my not-so-good stats of a mere 2.83 GPA and as first time ACT of 24. (though jr sr years have a 3.70 GPA )

Im also wondering where I can get the ecclesiastical endorsement, since I do live in South FL and have no idea where to go to meet a Bishop.

In addition, I want to know if the general religious atmosphere of BYU is appropriate for someone who is of no official religious affiliation, but would lean towards a non-chrisitian religion (Buddhism). On non-religious terms I find the college of the right atmosphere: strict on appropriateness of language, grooming standards, academic honesty, and lastly a no-tolerance policy on alcohol and drugs (something that isn’t present at my states public universities =()

Also, If I do fail to get in, would I be able to transfer after a year of CC, with an excellent gpa?

I’ll start off by saying I have never attended any BYU school, but I’ve been LDS my whole life, so I know a little bit about it. (And I’ll probably be at Provo next year)

BYU-H is mostly for LDS students who are living in Asia or Pacific Islands. And you’ll probably want Provo over Idaho. With your solid junior and senior year GPA I wouldn’t worry about the work at BYU, but getting in might be a little tricky, give it your best though, Idaho should be a sure thing, but Provo would be a bit of a stretch.

To find a bishop/ward go to lds.org Hover over the “About the church” and an option “Find a meetinghouse” will appear. Type in your address. You can also use the “Stake and ward websites” link near the bottom right of the front page.

If you’re of no religious affiliation you have to realize a lot of the culture is based on LDS life. If you find the standards to be a good atmosphere that’s a great start. You should probably consider visiting if you get the time.

I would think you’d be able to transfer after a year with good grades, but it’d be nice if someone else who knew what they were talking about could answer. If nothing else you should get into Idaho and could transfer to Provo if you so desire.
