Non-tenured faculty union growing after University of Chicago vote

The University of Chicago non-tenured faculty voted last week to join the Service Employees International Union. Moves are afoot at other Chicago universities (Loyola University Chicago, DePaul University, Illinois Institute of Technology, Concordia College Chicago, and The School of the Art institute) to hold similar votes. Columbia College and Roosevelt University have been unionized for some time. I have put links to two news pieces on this below

Personally, I don’t find this surprising as more and more of instructional staff at universities are non-tenure track now and there is heavy reliance on part-time adjuncts who are paid quite poorly.
