how is being nontraditional International student might affect your application to Yale?

How old are you? And where are you from? And have you studied on a degree course before?

I’m a nontraditional but not by much because I’m 22. I did contact Yale Admissions and they said it was fine for me to apply as an undergraduate as long as I’m ok with being in a class of people younger than me.

Depending on how nontraditional, the Eli Whitney program might be a better fit than applying as a typical freshman admit.

I am 23, and soon will be 24 , I served in the army (after high school).
I don’t mind to be older :)

Aaah ok. So are you looking to apply this year for class of 2014 or applying next year? Have you done SATs or anything?

I’ve done all the required tests and I am applying this year. I am just wondering how being nontraditional will affect my admission and the admission process

Right ok. Are you from the UK?? Just wondering.

To be honest I think it could go both ways - I don’t know about you but being totally unfamiliar with the style of the SAT test is proving difficult for me to score as competitively as the rest of the applicant pool. Add that to having been out of high school for a while makes it that extra bit trickier.

But obviously, they do KNOW that internationals haven’t had the same educational background so they are able to take that into account. And they’ll see from your work experience that you have been out of school so that extra bit of life experience could help you. But then again being an international student, the odds of acceptance are still so small. it’s difficult to know. I have no idea what they’re looking for. Just do your best and that’s all you can do :)
