Normal calc or AP stat?

I have the option of either taking AP Stat and honors physics OR AP physics and normal calculus AB. Which option looks better?

I’m going through something relatively similar, and I elected to go with AP stats because I enjoy statistics more than calculus. Seems to me to be a more sensible criterion because the two are both reasonably good looking options, but I’m curious to hear people’s input here, just the same.

Yeah, it’s a tough choice, right? I’m most definitely going to be a social sciences or humanities major in college. I’m good at math, not great, but good enough to get an A in either calc AB or stats. AP stat would probably be more usefull for the type of quantitative political science that I’m interested in. But apparently at my school there’s not a massive leap in difficulty from honors to AP physics. So I’m considering that route. Would love to hear some opinions!

AP Calculus AB will be more useful for subject credit and preparation for additional university math and statistics courses than AP Statistics. In many cases, a major that requires statistics will require a calculus-based statistics course.

Regarding physics, is AP Physics B or C? B should be thought of more as a better high school physics course, since it is unlikely that any major that requires a physics course will accept an AP score in that for subject credit.

AP Statistics might be more helpful later (for understanding and not being misled by statistics in the news, for example) if you do not ever plan to take a calculus course (which would mainly apply to humanities majors). However, a basic understanding of the concepts of calculus is still useful in general.

The problem is that my school only offers AP Calc BC and I got conflicted out of that class. The other senior math classes my school offers are normal calculus (AB material) and AP statistics. AP Calc BC would make this a much easier decision. I believe it’s physics B because many students take the class as juniors in honors pre-calc and I’ve heard physics C is calc-based?

Yes, AP Physics C uses calculus.

In this case, it looks like your physics choices are effectively honors and slightly better honors high school physics. So the choice between Calculus AB and Statistics is the main one.

The Calculus AB test is often given credit for a semester of freshman calculus, though this can vary by university.

What conflict is preventing you from taking Calculus BC?

I may take normal calculus and just take the AP test (AB) in May. AP music theory and AP lit conflicted me out of BC, both of which are classes that I really want to take.

I would say the AP physics with calc
