Now is not the time to “play it cool” or let pride get in the way. He will not seem desperate if he states how excited he is to know that there might be a shot to go to this school. If he wants to seem like a more desirable candidate, he could imply that he has reliable plans for school next year, but would change them in a heartbeat if this school would accept him off the wait-list.
I totally relate… I am verrry awkward on the phone! He should go ahead and pursue it. This gives him the chance to be more eloquent and sincere. I’m sure he feels a lot of pressure after the sting of waitlisted, but he needs to be himself. Go for it Mathman, don’t feel judged. Just advocate for yourself!
I haven’t had this happen, but one of the schools i was waitlisted at asked if they were my first choice. I said yes because i had the best chance of getting off the waitlist there and their programs really are phenomenal. so i would say he should definitely confirm that it is his first choice, because it sounds a lot more likely for him to get in there.
Enthusiasm!!! In writing!!!
If mathman wants to attend this school and has no hesitation that he would accept an offer if given one, ABSOLUTELY send an email stating this. He should send it to his AO and also have his parents send the same to the Director of Admissions. Time is of the essence…
Why is Mathman not on CC anymore D;?
@Bulatt Aftereffects of M10 and the fact that CC is just too addicting. He needed a break.
Just wanted to let you all know that I haven’t heard from mathman in several days, so unfortunately, no updates yet.
Thanks @thelittleswimmer for starting this thread for me. It’s been really helpful!
Keep us posted, @mathman1201 – we’re hoping for you!
Thank you! I will! @cameo43
Just wanted to let you guys know that I sent out the email to the school that called me! I plan on doing one school a day (and a few over the weekend). One email per school day is quite overwhelming enough.
I will let you know if any schools reach back! I forgot to tell you guys that I called most of my WLed schools, saying that I was still interested. One of my interviewers emailed me, thanked me for my interest, and told me that my application was “very strong.” My interviewer also told me that there is no need to send any more information, because my application “speaks for itself.” She also told me to keep up the good work “in school, in the pool and on the violin,” and that ** they will be in touch in April. **
Maybe I’m reading too much into this haha.
Will keep you guys updated! Feel free to PM me if you want to know the exact schools that called/emailed me, but I don’t want to post it here. Hopefully I will be back with any more good news.
I agree that you don’t need to send any more updates unless significant. From now, it’s not about you but about what needs (9th or 10th grade, girl or boy, which sports) they need to fill. I also wouldn’t read much into the response you get from AO except that no response may not be a good sign. Stay vigilant near April 7th and onward and keep bugging them. Advocate for yourself. “Still interested” is not good enough. Write “Would absolutely attend” (to the school that called you.) Do not hesitate. You are doing the school a favor, giving them the chance to have you in their community, no?
Huh. I’ve reached out to them through my phone, my mom’s phone, my email, and my parents’ email. Although I’ve never met any of them in person. Lol.
I will make sure they know who I am, so at the very least, they can be like “Oh! Mathman reapplied!” next year.
Humph.
And yes, I definitely conveyed the message that I will definitely attend in my email. @payn4ward If they reply, I will repeat that once more while saying thanks.
This is a nerve wracking process. I have AfraidThatI’llPutTheWrongSchoolNameInAnEmail-phobia.
Good
Don’t read too much into the bolded portion. Schools always send periodic updates to everyone on the waitlist, so this may be what she meant. Some schools routinely send out a mass email once a month to all waitlist candidates (see prior threads on this).
Although it looks like the school is interested in you, it is far from being a slam dunk. While you are waiting for an answer, it might be time to have a serious discussion with your parents about financial aid. If you do get off the waitlist, there may be a possibility that all the financial aid is gone. Would your parents consider sending you without financial aid? INow is the time to have these types of discussions.
I got an email from them saying that I was “all set” and that they placed my name on the waiting list. Nothing else.
Got another email from a different school basically saying to call them back.
I’m nervous that I’ll freeze up again. I must be calm. :-SS
Pressing the numbers right this second. Crossing my fingers right now.
@mathman1201 Hope everything goes well!
Hmph, she didn’t pick up. I’ll send her an email.
I’ll update you guys if I get anything back!
