North Carolina Students Fight Class Ranking

Do colleges really look at rank when making their decision, shouldn't it depend on your grades and performance in the classes you took as opposed to comparing you to your classmates? It's not like your entire grade is applying to the same college.

if your school does not tell class ranks, and the college you are applying to requires top 5% or top 10% etc.. does the school have to give it to them?

My school doesn't give us rank unless we hound the counselor for it and they do check it off in the box when we apply to colleges, so they probably will put it for you.

My school does not rank and does not have a valedictorian. We don't have a valedictorian because the school got sued with dualing valedictorians separated by .0001 of a point in GPA. This is not a lie, they scrapped the valedictorian to hush the suit up.

Our school and school district has been in too much litigation on everything from admissions to class rank to pretty much anything else imaginable.

2007 is the last year for rankings at my school, which sucks because im going to have a 5.5 weighted gpa and still only be 70/600.I wish they would've gotten rid of it this year so i wouldn't have to deal with it.

My school has never included Class Ranking ever in its history. It is one of those Magnet schools, which according to Newsweek is one of the "Public Elite". The admins at my school report everyone who has above a 3.2 GPA (uw) in the top 10% of our class, which is only fair since I would be in the top 5% of my class at my normal high school.
