End of Class Rank

Our school district has announced that they'll end class rank for the high schools, starting with this year's freshman class. My class won't be affected by it, but has anyone else's schools been doing this?

Most top public schools havn’t been ranking for a while.

Not true.
Many public schools rank.

Notice I said top public schools. The majority of public schools in America continue to rank, but as many CC members can attest to, most competitive high schools avoid precise ranking systems.

“Not true.”

Evidence? Source? Anything to indicate this is true at all?

My school didn’t rank, decile, anything like that. If it did though it would have been severely flawed if they did because they also didn’t weigh.

I go to boarding school, so it’s pretty normal for us not to rank, but my public high school stopped ranking a few years back (they just do val and sal now)

And there you go, two (technically three) high schools to support my claim.

My “Top” High School ranks… :>

My school doesn’t rank

My school is considering getting rid of rank next year. It can be considered a top public school by some metrics.

Our top public ended it for our class of '12

I’m a private school kid. My previous HS didn’t rank, and neither does my current one (no precise rank, no deciles, nothing of the sort). I’m not sure if my next one ranks, but somehow I doubt it does.

My high school ranks, but they cap our GPAs.

My “top” school stopped; there was wayy too much competition.

My school doesn’t rank either. We have a val and sal, but that’s it. Students usually figure out who’s in the top 5-10 or so on our own by talking with each other, though.

My high school doesn’t rank, they did away with it after they ended valedictorian and such last year.

Well, let me rephrase that, we were supposed to. The school planned to end class rank with the class of 2012. That’s when our graduations would be revised and there would be no valedictorian or class rank. However, because of the class of 2010 and 2011 (which aren’t affected) we still have a class rank for everyone.

So, even though the freshmen and sophomore classes (this past year( were told they wouldn’t be ranked, we still received a ranking on our semester report cards. I guess it has something to do with how their system prints the reports.

Random, non-interesting story FTW?

Haha, what are you going to do now?
No need to bold TOP. I am not an idiot.
Some of you guys really need to chill sometimes.
Based on my experience, many (at least international; top) schools rank.
If you are really being picky about it, here you go: these users said that their school ranks.

And others said they RECENTLY stopped ranking.

Please, no need to fight. You are cool, you win. Okay?
So stop being cynical.
Thanks, I appreciate it. :)

Define “top”

My school ranks =), but even when defined my school is most likely nowhere near a top school lol.

I don’t know if my public high is a top public, but it is pretty competitive and does not release rank info.

All the public schools in my county rank as far as I know.
