<p>they probably prefer it. nyu and columbia, for example, are full of kids from california. however, the same can't be said for vice versa.</p>
<p>I'm from the Norht East and I think it may have helped me get accepted!</p>
<p>yeah, geographical diversity is a factor. competition around the area is usually stifling, so you'll see more students from outside areas.</p>
