Northeastern Class of 2027 Official Thread

Got deferred from EA, was given the option of getting on ED2 list or RD. Wondering what my chances are.

do they usually email applicants or release instagram posts notifying applicants of the release dates? like did they post something last year about an rd release date prior to the release? or do these decisions just randomly come out without prior notice of an email or a social media post announcing the date?

Here is a nice write up of what to expect:

Enrollment Opportunities
As you are aware, from submitting your application, students join the Northeastern community through a variety of enrollment pathways. During the application process, you were asked to indicate your preference for an enrollment program. While preferences are considered in the application review, applicants are reviewed for all available enrollment pathways and may receive an admission decision that does not match their indicated preference.

Each application was carefully reviewed with the goal of building a diverse community with intellectually motivated and engaged students. Please remember our decisions reflect the full applicant pool and our enrollment goals; they are not a reflection of individual applicants’ accomplishments.

Please visit our website for more detailed information about each enrollment opportunity. If you have additional questions, please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 617.373.2200 or admissions@northeastern.edu.

Sincerely,

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions

I wonder why they’re changing the way they do decisions this year.

Well, that’s a complete change from the past!

Maybe they are releasing acceptances in waves, starting with the less popular campuses first
then, depending on withdrawals, they can adjust their acceptances for the remaining applicant pool to ensure they fill their quotas for all campuses?

Nope. The commitment date is May 1st and all decisions will be out by April 1st.

Yes, this is of course true. However, because most decisions are binding, some applicants will withdraw prior to April 1. There will definitely be people who do not want to enroll in Oakland or London for four years.

I wondered if they are saying they are releasing decisions in waves because of the glitch they had with EA decisions. Maybe they want the capability of saying, “well, that was just one wave, the rest of you will get your decisions later” if something like the EA incident happens.

Well, their message certainly covers all possibilities: mistakes as well as optimizing their enrollment at all campuses.

Not “binding”–I should have said “final”

Did everyone get this email? My daughter was deferred but hasn’t received it (yet).

My son got the email and was deferred EA. Check spam?

what was the EA incident?

Got it, but from the past round have realised that emails are often delayed. Hang in there.

Not in spam. It’s probably just the usual Northeastern insanity!

They sent out a followup email to accepted students before they released the decisions
