Thank you.
MY D just finished BS/MS Arch at NU in 2022. Great program. We visited RPI, but note that arch programs all over are very different. RPIs program is very engineering focused, material development focused (as itās a tech school.) My D was not interested in that although she found their work fascinating. For example, they were developing exterior bricks that are solar and track the sun for energy. RPI is also not in a city, and Troy was pretty depressing at least in 2016, but headed towards redevelopment so it might be much better now. Plus, being an engineering tech school, it was like 80/20 men to womenā¦really off balance at least for her.
UC Boulder does not really have arch unless itās brand new. But it has a cool sustainable design kind of program and arch engineering that is similar. We were also OOS that made the price challenging. But itās amazing there.
I would ask questions about the London/Boston program and how well the curriculum matches up for arch in particular as the arch curriculum is pretty structured if you plan to go on to the MS program. You donāt want to be behind the cohort sheād be joining in after a year.
Thanks.
Yes definetely being able to transfer credit appropriately between London and Boston or CS major and graduate in time is a concern.
We were also debating to probably re-apply as a transfer to NEU next year and just take 1 year in CC this year. Does any one know how easy it is to transfer to Neu ? I was hoping she get some advantage since she is accepted this yearā¦
My D really like NEU however I donāt think we are going to get any aid , so 1 yr in CC would probably save some budget, plus she is a summer 2005 born, I feel that she is not too mature yet.
But weāll see. We are attending local RPI presentation ( we are in California) this weekend, and will be going to Boulder next week ā¦ would be nice if our state school accepts her so she does not have to go too far. UC acceptance is just terrible this year. Heart breaking after all the taxes that we are paying. Sigh.
Good luck. Itās an interesting and challenging process. Weāre from CA too. None of the UCs have good arch programs as an undergrad. UCB is the best but itās only a BA in arch so that pretty much requires a MA (two year program) after. I donāt think you can do a BA plus one to meet MARCH requirements, unlike NUs BS plus one (more studio time, physics, calc etc.) Did she apply to Calpoly? That arch program is outstanding. My D had a hard time choosing between NU and calpoly in the end but is super happy she chose a new adventure to try the east coast and was very happy at NU. Iām not as familiar with any arch programs at CSUs, if any.
The other thing to think about (which became apparent to us while she was in college) is to see what breaks they get from the grind of arch school (tons of studio time.) NU has the two coop breaks and a required semester abroad in Spain third year, and all serve as a wonderful break from the intensity of the program and provide great work and study experiences.
By arch I was also referring to RPIās summer version of internship .
Her intended major is CS .
She did apply to Cal poly but unfortunately a no.
NEU seems like a really great school for her, but weāll see ā¦
I am glad your daughter had completed NEU with a positive experience
Oh sorry. Arch is typically an abbreviation for architecture. Good luck on your childās journey.
You appear to be full pay at Harvard and Cornell. They are not likely to give you any money.
EDIT: it appears that the post I replied to has been deleted.
Hi! My DD got into that program, too. But no merit aid. May I ask how much aid you received? Trying to appeal the no aid decision.
Just so you know, NU is not known for responding to appeals for aid, but you can always ask.
My daughter appealed after the admitted student visit due to changes in our (parents) employment situation. It will be reviewed and we shall see. No promises. We have to wait another week. Grateful that they are willing to review.
FA was Very responsive to our appeal for additional financial aid in 2020 and have been generous the last 2 years.
No luck. No additional assistance. She will not be attending NU. . Best of luck and enjoy the journey!
I think circumstances vary. In general, NU is not known to just allow appeals for no merit aid as was my response to a poster. However, if financial circumstances change, NU has been known to review. I have seen some posts over the years where the review came back with no new aid, and others with new aidā¦ so it depends on circumstances and perhaps what aid is available. But NU is not known to provide more aid just for merit or based on offers from other schools.
My D also knew a friend who had no aid coming in frosh year, and over her five years, ended up talking with FA and getting more aid added over time til her tuition was covered in her last year. A lot of that was based on the fact that she provided herself as a great student, had some need, and they had some extra aid to provide.
Sorry to hear this. Best of luck to your and your child.
Hello I just got an email from Northeastern about being in their PlusOne Accelerated Masters Program. Does anyone have any information on this program? Does everyone get invited? Or are you automatically admitted?
Probably sent to all students within plus One degrees. An incentive for those to stay one extra year and get your masters in your field. Both of my Dās took advantage of Plus One programs. Saved a year of grad school tuition, no applications/GREs, keeps you on track.

Here are the stats for this yearās record number of applicants, including a 30% increase in ED applications over last year.
Proud mine was accepted ea but totally unaffordable
Moved on
Itās hard to get accepted these days so I am sure your child had many fine college choices.
Itās interesting they provide no numbers for kids who were accepted into NUim and only very general numbers for the other campuses (expected number of attendees as opposed to numbers admitted). Transparency not that important, I guess.
