Northeastern Class of 2027 Official Thread

Any idea on when the next round of acceptances could be?

Yup, got into NU.in for Greece. Comp Sci, Indian (Killer combo ik). Honestly didn’t expect I’d get in solely due to how competitive it has become to be an international CS applicant. But in any case, its just too expensive (around 80k). I was wondering if the co-op is enough to offset the fee to get it close to a public uni like UW Madison or UMD(50k)?

Umd comp sci is very competitive, congrats. You’d get great internships in dc

You may not be able to use federal need based aid for global scholars are not officially matriculated at NU until sophomore year
. But I would check with financial aid given all the new changes in admission. NU merit aid may be able to be used for global scholars.

Changing majors is easy at NU but the further along you get in your classes, you need to be sure you can still meet requirements for a new major or extend your time. Merit aid will only apply for 8 semesters, so cost is a factor. Only some majors are hard to change into like pharmacy or maybe nursing.

Are other locations full already too? I’m curious how quickly they fill up.

I can’t see if they are full since my daughter already chose hers. I don’t even know if Paris is full, but someone in the N.U.in Facebook group did mention that it was a few weeks ago, so I think it is.

I can’t find it was it in a story?

Since the first wave was Wednesday, March 15th, I’m going to guess the next one is the evening of Wednesday, March 22nd
but that’s just a guess.

I am referring to people who got in the first wave–they had the admitted students box before they got accepted, but some people didnt when they got accepted which makes me, and hopefully a lot of other applicants, much less worried

My DD was accepted to N.U.in last week. We did some research and decided not to do it. We are out.

This is how they keep their stats optimal for USNWR. (High yield, low admission rate.) All of the “transfer” students don’t figure into their normal stats. It’s brilliant marketing but quite opaque for those applying and generates so much stress for parents and students.

I dont believe admission rate or yield is part of USNWR rankings calculation. https://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/articles/how-us-news-calculated-the-rankings

You know what else it does. It makes people think that Northeastern is not a real ethical school. It makes people (like me) in hiring positions think less of the school. This is my second child going off to college, and of all the schools we have worked with, Northeastern plays the most games. I lose more and more respect for the college by the day.

I don’t believe the school decides how admissions are included in their stats. The Common Data sets that standard and it is universal across all schools. Many schools have spring start or other alternative paths. Those numbers are not included in the published admissions rate either.

My main annoyance with NEU in terms of ethics is that they clearly offer admission to programs outside of Boston despite applicants checking the “only Boston” box. I wonder what their yield rate is for that cohort. If I were an applicant that was interested in non-Boston programs and was denied, I would be annoyed they are offering admission to programs other applicants did not select.
