Northeastern Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

does anyone know if ed2 has a lower acceptance rate than ed1?

I am not sure they have ever published Acceptance rates breaking out ED1/2.

How do you apply rd and switch to Ed without paying application fee? I want my daughter to do the pre read first before switching to Ed. Ed has no app fee. Also, how long does pre read take?

I believe we did the pre-read before he submitted the application.I want to say it took roughly two weeks, but it depends on if they need additional information.

It says you have to do the application before the pre read.

Hmmm
that may be a change because I know we did not pay for the application and we did the pre-read. I just checked and we got the results Oct 10 so it must have been less than a two week turn around. I would call the admissions office. I am sure there is a way to take advantage of both the waiver and the pre-read.

There should be no difference in a financial pre read for twins if they basically have the same income and same cash balance, right?

I can’t imagine there would be, but only Northeastern knows how they calculate aid. We were shocked at how generous they were, and our best guess is either they gave more consideration for having multiple students in college (even different colleges) or they do not penalize so much for having a 529 plan. We are just guessing, but we got WAY more FA from NE than any other school.

Another thing to consider as you make financial decisions is the NE promise that if you have qualified for financial aid, your COA will not go up. At my older son’s school, there are increases every year.

It took 2 weeks to get the pre-read financial statement from Northeastern this year.
9/23 Common App submitted
10/2 CSS profile submitted
10/2 Northeastern requested documents on IDOC
10/4 Documents submitted on IDOC
10/4 Pre-read request button available on application portal (form filled out and requested)
10/17 Need-based financial aid pre-read emailed to us by Northeastern.

S24 decided he was not going to do ED to Northeastern before we got the pre-read back, but it was good to go through the process.

I wish it did not take 2 weeks!! How are they going to get info back in time to applicants if you can request up until Oct 25th and deadline for ED is Nov 1? Also, what form did you fill out for pre read? I don’t see a form. I just see a button to request and check the boxes.

Sorry - the request “form” was just the check all boxes and submit. No extra form.
Maybe they will get the pre-reads done faster the last few days for those submitting close to 10/25.

My daughter did the financial pre read for ED. It came back that she would be getting $18k less than her athletic pre read and the NPC. I can’t figure out why the net price would come back so much higher at this point. The exact same info was used for all the pre reads. Has this happened to anyone? We do not have any unusual circumstances. Just basic income, no divorce, no businesses owned, etc
I even tried putting in a much higher value for our home on the NPC and it only changed the amount by $1k.

Contact the financial aid office as well as the coach.

Yes, I have done both. Waiting
so incredibly stressful. This is for twins!

COA can go up if you only get merit aid as that amount does not change over 4-5 years while tuition and COLA will go up3-5% per year. If you have need based aid, it will also increase the same percentage as tuition increases
. As per NU promise.

It was all resolved

I find this very annoying. My DD is planning on applying ED2 (if she doesn’t get her ED1). But I feel that it’s sort is a waste of an ED if she doesn’t get Boston. She might consider 1-2 semesters in Oakland but definitely not 4 years. And she doesn’t want to be out of the country to start her college experience. She is not that adventurous of a person. I wouldn’t be surprised if they get a ton of de-commits from ED if that’s there approach to be so round robin about it.

The ED is not binding if you are offered an alternate admission to what you indicated.

S24 has decided at the last minute to add an EAapplication after going back and forth. He is applying everywhere as a music and economics major. Does anyone know if I am reading this correctly that the only way they will consider his music supplement is if he applies through CAMD as a music major. Is it easy to change later or double major?

I believe that Northeastern is looking for adventurous students. It has never been a place for a student looking for the traditional eight semesters of classes with a summer internship or two. Coop has always required a student to adapt to changing circumstances. NU In, and now the Oakland and London options, are perhaps ways of getting students out of their “comfort zones” and seek new experiences.
