Northeastern Orientation?

This might be a dumb question depending on if it has a literal meaning but…</p>

What is the ropes course?

^It’s like what they do at camps and whatnot… there are ropes attached to the trees and you have to do different team-building activities… I’m not quite sure how to describe 'em exactly, sorry!

Unfortunately, I’ve never been the most avid fan of the ropes course…

you have bungie cables as supports and you do like a tight-rope walk across very high trees, there is the “flying squirrel” where you are attached to a bungie rope that is looped through a pulley and people hold on to the other end of the rope, run, and you go flying really high. It sounds lame, but its pretty fun. There are also trivia games and other things that happen at the ropes course.

so when exactly was orientation?

orientation is supposed to be in august if I’m not mistaken.

what people are talking about is welcome day or something like that… it’s not the actual orientation since there are people who still haven’t been notified if they have been accepted or not

There are like 3 orientation sessions for each college throughout the summer. So orientation could be in June, July, or August (I believe).

so we could choose which one we want to attend?

Yep, as long as it is for your college. There are a TON of orientations, but only about 3 per college.

thanks a lot =] i look forward to attending neu

I am a senior at NU. When I was going into my Freshman year, my uncle (NU alum) gave me the best advice. Go to the earliest orientation you possibly can. I did, kept in touch with the people that I met and had so many friends when I came to school. The BIGGEST plus however is you pick your classes at orientation. I knew I would have a tough time with an 8 AM American Govt class. I know lots of people who went to later orientations got stuck in those classes. If you want first pick, you want to sign up for an earlier date.

Go to the earliest you can would be my advice. I went to the middle one and couldn’t get into a few classes I wanted, and a future roommate went to the last one and couldn’t get into most of the ones she wanted.

Also, try to get in touch with your advisor a while before orientation begins. That way they can help you start figuring out what classes you want to take, etc before they become insanely overwhelmed by new students’ emails. My advisor actually put me into all of my classes weeks before orientation, so during our meeting we just chatted about random stuff.

neuchimie- question: if you emailed your advisor beforehand and she put you into all of your classes before orientation, then why were you unable to get into a few of the classes that you wanted?

if i email my advisor, then would it make a difference as to which orientation date i go to?

Yeah, for me, most of my schedule is already chosen for me. So does it really matter which orientation date you select? How fast do certain electives fill up?

My daughter wasn’t given a choice, she only had one orientation to which she must go. Good thing we can make it those days!!

How many parents attend? We are all going to go, and we even paid for our son because we’re going up a couple of days early to spend some time in the city.

Also, our hotel charges $44 a day for parking. Will it be possible/cheaper to park at Northeastern for the orientation period?

Wilberry228, I’d call admissions or ask the question on the Parent’s Board

[Northeastern University Parent Message Board - Login](http://northeasternparents.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=newestthreads)

My D and I will take the train. Found a pretty good rate at the Marriott Copley  She is College of Science. We are going 20/21 June. You?

Don’t they offer separate on campus accommodations for parents in IV?

Thanks, I found that board but I don’t know what’s going on with our internet. I just got hung on the page and it wouldn’t create a login for me.

We’re going July 11/12. She’s in Bouve. I was horrified at the costs of hotels that I actually booked one of those deals where you don’t know the hotel until you paid for it. Marriott Copley! That was pretty pricey and forget the parking … we’re driving (cost of gas allowing). We ended up at the Sheraton for a pretty good rate, but we’re staying Saturday through Tuesday.

highachiever, they do offer accommodations on campus for parents, but the hotel we are staying in is actually cheaper anyway, and we’ll be there the extra nights, so it’s just easier. But that’s why I’m wondering about the parking. I would think it would be cheaper to park in a Northeastern garage than the $44 a day at the hotel.

OK, I got it to work. Sounds like staying on campus has worked out really well for a lot of people!

Wilberry, you can park at the Renaissance parking garage at Northeastern from 6:00 pm Friday to 12:00 am Sunday for $6/day, [Parking > Visitor Parking](http://www.northeastern.edu/parking/visitor.html) My son hasn’t registered for orientation yet, but I would hope that they would issue a parking pass for the actual days of orientation.

I have a few questions

Do most people have parents come and do most stay in dorms?

I have like 4 possible orientation dates. I am a chem major, do I need to go on a specific day, or are all fine?

Also, when do we find out about move in and housing and stuff? I am honors and am staying in IV (I think)
