Northeastern RD 2022

Is Northeastern still needs aware this year or has that changed?

^ I don’t know, but it’s irrelevant to applicants. You apply if you like the school and it’s a match.

Congratulations to those who were accepted. Can you please share what the move in date is for Northeastern in Fall 2018? Thank you!

Students typically move in Labor Day weekend - with honors students moving in a few days earlier to participate in some team building events. Students are sent a specific move in window (a four hour time period on a specific day) which is based upon their dorm assignment.

@vonlost definitely not irrelevant.

Does anyone know if they are needs aware like last year? I thought I recall hearing they were needs blind this year. I can’t find it on their website.

@2022soon Northeastern has committed to meet full need for admitted students. Only very well endowed colleges can afford to be need blind in that situation.

@TomSrOfBoston
Ok good, that may be a benefit then. Thank you!

Did any other Honors students see the $200 reimbursement email for the Honors’ Welcome Day? They say the reserved spots are filling up (seems odd they wouldn’t have enough space b/c they know how many Honors’ students there are).

Bah, DD didn’t get any Honors notices. I’m confused about getting accepted to two different colleges. When DD did her appliction, it seemed to only allow for one degree to be listed (there were a couple of, I think they call them “combined degrees” that she was interested in, but nothing like that was contained in the dropdown menu.) How did you indicate two different colleges on your application?

@SuperGymnast_04 Congratulations! Did you take any subject tests?

@math4bap Thank you! I did take 2 subject tests World History (720) and Bio E (740) and submitted both to Northeastern. I don’t think they are required. As a homeschooled student, however, I felt like more emphasis would be put on my test scores and I wanted to show myself as a competent student, especially as a prospective science major.

Very nervous about getting in, congrats to everyone who has been accepted so far!

My DD has 34 ACT, 4.0 UW / 5.1 W GPA and apparently did not get into the honors program since she hasn’t heard from NU yet. Yikes.

^Ditto exactly (plus legacy here.) DD really likes some of NU’s interdisciplinary degrees. Oh well, maybe get to create similiar program with Open Curriculum schools.

these pages are filled with lots of super qualified people stat wise who were deferred EA or have not yet heard RD- either NU is really ignoring stats for “other” qualities or there is a lot of yield protection going on

With the 300 student over enrollment last year and the 15% increase in applications this year they are likely being extra cautious this year.

@lotterygirl @IzzysMom

Not all honors decisions have been released if the pattern of last year is followed, though many have been likely.

The honors profile is also very high (top 10% of the admitted class - 34 ACT is the top 25% mark) and goes beyond stats. Not getting honors isn’t a huge deal - it adds up to perks than its own program. You have to look specifically at honors programs by college, but many amounts to very little in terms of the resulting experience, particularly at high ranked schools. Lower ranked schools tend to use them to recruit top students, where higher ranked schools have no need to do so and would find drawing such large distinctions between student populations to be unproductive with such high caliber student bodies.

@IzzysMom I can’t remember exactly how he did it, but my son was able to request a combined degree in CS and math, which are in the CCIS and College of Sciences schools. His decision letter told him he was accepted to CCIS. Later he received an email from the College of Sciences welcoming him to the Math department.

On the application portal, along with the acceptance letter, there are instructions for setting up her My.Northeastern account. There is a link to change majors under the Update Enrollment Information link.

Combined degrees are handled in an odd way. One of the majors owns the degree and that school is the school you are enrolled in. However, you are still part of both departments.

For example, my daughter was a combined econ/math major. Econ was the owner of the degree and so she was part of the CSSH school. However, she was still considered part of the Match department (with is College of Sciences.)

Will they release more before 3/17? My daughter has a 34 ACT and a 3.98 unweighted. She has not been accepted as of yet. Seems odd to me.
