just called admissions to ask why the letter would be gone. they said it is so that all applications are put into the same pool and they just decided to remove them at this point
@k41500 that’s a relief!! I got so nervous #:-S
Oh, my deferral letter just disappeared! I know it probably means nothing towards what decision you’ll get, but does it mean RD decisions are being released soon? I don’t know the exact date decisions come out so I’m speculating.
Just checked, mine has disappeared as well! If it means everyone is placed in the same pool, will we all receive a decision on 3/15 or will it be spread out over a couple of days?! :-?
@Elly710 @greeneandh The most likely decision release dates are 3/13 or 1/15 based on past years. All remaining RD decisions are released the same day.
I feel like it might be a bit later than 3/15 just bc of their over-admit issue last year… hoping it’s soon though!!
With having the over-admit issue last year, is getting waitlisted even an option–at this rate I’m thinking its pretty much rejection w/ no chance. Thoughts?!
We are down to the wire and many, including myself, a bit tense. This entire ‘2017 over admit’ issue is a red herring. Every school deals with this every year, and the outcomes are not perfect. Sometime low yield, sometimes high, consequences on both ends. The common app has made it so easy to apply and you have students applying to 10-20 schools, most within their grade, scores, EC demo. NU wants to grow, and provided they can press the housing, and the overage is in their sweet spot, it is a good thing. As many have posted, the tricky part, and for me hard to believe, for many this is their safety. Those ‘safety’ grades I suspect are also right in the sweet spot. When I visited the school in the Fall lots of construction. That is not for show. That is for a future larger population, and we are part of that. We will all know soon. I wish all who have applied good luck, especially if this is among your top picks.
@Spark2018 “provided they can press the housing,” They can’t. The extra 300 students last fall created issues for the housing office. They cannot have the same thing occur again.
So I guess the only answer to this business / math problem is to admit less. If that is the case, maybe NU should not be my top pick, because I hope to gain a little more when it comes to complex problem solving.
@Elly710 I would think that because of the over-admit issue, that would mean less admitted, more waitlisted. That way, if the yield is lower than expected, they will have a pool of waitlisted applicants to choose from.
makes the most sense, too bad they can’t push up the commitment date as well- it’s not fun to lose a deposit to another school if you get called up off the waitlist
@bethanylm291 @quinntheeskimo That does make sense. I was thinking the same thing when it comes to enrollment deposits. I would really love to go to Northeastern, but having to spend $500 if I’m waitlisted then accepted is a bit tough for me financially.
Does anyone know how many spots/students were admitted ED 1 and 2 (meaning the total) . Not sure if its possible to figure out those that were admitted Early Action, but at least knowing the number that were binding is helpful to determine the number still out there.
it seems like they are pretty protective of these numbers- I know Duke put the exact amount that were accepted / rejected /deferred and how many slots were still open for RD
did anyone else just receive an email from student financial services? wondering if it could mean anything positive!!
@jwbbb7 Don’t read into it.
@jwbbb7 what did it say?
“Thank you for uploading your information to IDOC. We have received most of the information requested, but we still require a copy of your parent’s 2016 tax form 1120s, parents 2016 schedule K1.
Please upload item (s) to your portal. If you have recently uploaded that information, IDOC is experiencing longer wait time for documents to be processed, so we may not have access to the information for a few days.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions” @a.martin.99
Only reason I was curious was because I haven’t uploaded anything recently and was wondering if it could mean that they’ve made a (positive) decision and now they’re looking at my financial stuff.
@jwbb7 i know other schools have emailed me with similar things, they generally require all your financial aid to be in order (if you need financial aid) before decisions are released. sounds like they want additional stuff that isn’t on your idoc that probably pertains to your family’s financial situation so i wouldn’t read too much into it as @MrElonMusk has said.
