Northeastern Students Show Real Character

As a resident of the Boston area, with no affliation to Northeastern, I wanted to post to make note of the response of the Northeastern community to the Boston Marathon bombings. In reading all of the accounts of the day of and the aftermath of this tragic event, it is very evident that the students of Northeastern University have contributed greatly to helping Boston recover and should be thanked. I've read accounts of the student nurses who were manning the medical tents and were pressed into service well beyond what they had volunteered for. A single NU student used his t-shirt as a tourniquet to help stem the bleeding of a stranger severely injured by the blast and stayed with her to comfort her until medical help arrived. Two NU students organized a fundraiser to help a little girl who lost her leg - they were drawn to her cause because they heard she was a budding step dancer and they were dancers as well. They raised over $30,000 in a single night by pulling together stepdancing groups from all over New England for an exhibition. Even the students who quietly and with out being asked volunteered to pick up the trash generated after a spontaneous celebration broke out the night the second suspect was apprehended. Today, NU held its commencement and awarded honorary degrees to all first responders with Boston Police Commissioner Evans as their representative. Seems like they must be doing something right at that school!

I was at the graduation and President Aoun spoke about the response from NEU students as well as the first responders. It was an emotional speech and hard to remain composed.
I also notices a couple of students there that seemed like they may have been injured in the attack, but I could be wrong.
